Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are ending their 11 day tour of the Caribbean with a visit to Jamaica’s Montego Bay.
They have been touring the region from the yacht Leander, and arrived in Trinidad on May 4. After visiting sites on the island they stopped off in Tobago, with a trip to the Tobago Marine Research Centre to learn about coral reef protection schemes on the island.
After also seeing the work of the Buccoo Reef Trust they met with local people involved in eco-tourism projects at the Coco Reef Hotel before seeing Tobago’s celebrated Pigeon Point beach.
The royals then moved onto St Lucia, where they saw the island’s iconic twin Piton peaks, visited the historic town of Soufriere and travelled inland to the Fond Doux cocoa estate for a demonstration of traditional cocoa production methods.
They rounded off their time in St Lucia by joining the governor general for a banquet at his mansion in Tobago’s capital Castries and then headed back onto their yacht to sail to the volcanic island of Montserrat.
Montserrat was badly damaged by a volcanic eruption in 1997.
In Jamaica, Charles and Camilla enjoyed a spot of drumming at the former home of reggae legend Bob Marley, now a museum, and were treated to a performance by his former backing band, the I-Threes.
A visit to Jamaica’s capital Kingston included a tour of the deprived Rosetown area, while the couple also visited Falmouth on the north coast, one of the Caribbean’s best-preserved 18th century towns.
The tour of the Caribbean is ending in the holiday resort of Montego Bay, one of Jamaica’s most popular destinations.
