Departure flight from UK to Vientiane, Laos (overnight)
On arrival in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, you will transfer to the hotel to drop off your luggage. Then enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city’s major historic sites including religious museums of Wat Sisaket, Wat Ho Prakeo Luang Stupa and Patouxay (Arch de Triumph). Overnight at Settha Palace hotel.
Vientiane – Luang Prabang
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival into the mountain kingdom of Luang Prabang, the ancient first capital of Lane Xang kingdom, you will transfer to the hotel to drop off your luggage. You will then start your sightseeing by visiting the sacred city of temples, of which nearly fifty still remain in the town and surrounding areas. Visit the National Museum, the former Royal Palace, temples spanning many centuries including Wat Visoun, Wat Aham and Wat Xiengthong. Climb the 328 steps to the summit of Phousi Hill that dominates the sky-line of Luang Prabang and offers the finest panoramic view in the whole Luang Prabang. A compulsory dinner is served at the hotel. Overnight at La Residence Phou Vao hotel (B, D).
Luang Prabang
After breakfast, travel by boat on the Mekong River to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves in the side of a lime stone cliff. The sanctuaries at Pak Ou consist of two large caves, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images, up to two metres in height. You will visit Ban Xanghai, a village known for Lao traditional rice whisky to be distilled and tasted. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant on the banks of the Mekong river. After lunch, you will return to Luang Prabang by boat before continuing by car to visit Ban Xangkhong, a village renowned for its wood paper making and also Lao silk weavings with natural dyes. A compulsory dinner is served at the hotel. Overnight at La Residence Phou Vao hotel (B, L, D).
Kuangsi water fall
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before taking a drive to visit the spectacular Kuangsi Waterfall set in the beautiful surroundings of the National Park. You will stop en route to visit a fresh produce market where most of the local food comes from. You will also visit Ban Na Oune, a small village of a hill-tribe group “Hmong”, probably the best-known minority group in Laos, and the village of the “Khmu” tribe, Ban Tha Pane. Your picnic lunch is served at the shady park near the Kuangsi waterfall and there is plenty of time for relaxing and a swim in cool water before you head back to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. You will drive through the outskirts of the town to visit Ban Xangkhong, a village renowned for its wood papers and also Lao silk weavings with natural dyes. Overnight at La Residence Phou Vao hotel (B, L).
Luang Prabang departure
After breakfast spend some time at your leisure before being transferred to the airport for your flight home.
