Day 3 & 4
On day 3, you will journey to the Fish River Lodge, set in a grove of ancient Quiver trees. Found in this unique eco system are rare mountain zebra, elusive oryx and water-loving species. The geology of the canyon is as fascinating as the archaeology here, so there’s plenty to discover and learn. The ancient pictoglyph sites are found in abundance, as are stone age tools – a reminder of those who wandered the landscape thousands of years ago. With 45,000 hectares situated in Canyon Nature Park, there’s plenty of space to explore and relax.
A visit to the canyon can be as adventurous or tranquil as you’d like. If you want something more energetic, you can go for a long walk along the rim of the canyon and take up sundowner trails with a glass of champagne. You can hike down into the heart of the canyon with a qualified guide too. If you want to relax, the decks at the lodge offer beautiful views from morning to night - be sure to spend time star gazing, as the night sky is particularly bright and beautiful in this part of Africa.

Day 7 & 8
Tok Tokkie Trails is surrounded by beautiful desert scenery – whilst walking you will discover many secrets of the Namib that can’t be experienced whilst driving. Let your guide introduce you to this world, relax with a sundowner and enjoy a three- course dinner before falling asleep under the stars. The NamibRand Nature Reserve is a private conservation and protected area where wildlife can roam free.
On day 7 you will arrive at the Tok Tokkie Trails base where you’ll be greeted with refreshments. Your luggage will be transferred to the overnight camp by vehicle and your guide will give you a short introduction before a short scenic drive takes you to the starting point of the trail. From there you will walk over a slope strewn with mysterious “fairy circles” and over rolling sand dunes to the first overnight camp. The dunes are not the massive ones that are encountered at Sossusvlei, but small, vegetated dunes that have a unique beauty of their own.
On day 8, early morning tea or coffee is served before sunrise followed by a light breakfast so that you can set off in the cool of the early morning. During the course of the day your guide will explain some wonders of the Namib to you - how the fascinating desert flora survives, how insect and reptile life adapts to the harsh environment and how mammals can survive here without water. The larger animals you might come across include bat-eared fox, oryx, springbok and ostrich.
