We have travelled a lot but never been to Mauritius before, so after reading all about this Indian Ocean island decided to go there for our honeymoon. After the build up to the wedding we just wanted to relax and it looked like the perfect place for it.
We stayed first for seven night half board in a junior suite at the five star Beau Rivage on the north east coast of the island, and on our way there the first thing that we noticed about the island was how green everything was.
When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a cool drink and found the whole check-in process very easy. Having seen plenty of hotels before I couldn’t get over the size of the room and especially the size of the bathroom - it was huge, with a great walk-in shower and separate toilet.
We also had a personal butler who was very attentive - he even offered to unpack for us. Every day he asked us if there was anything that we needed in the room and when he turned the beds down each evening would leave flowers on the bed.
We had a chance to look at the other room types in the hotel and they were all fantastic. The villas have their own private pools and a separate entrance to the beach. They had a very open feel to them with an outside shower and a real feel of the outside being inside.
The beach was a beautiful white stretch of white sand. There were ample sun beds provided for every one, all with their own sun shade. They have a beach bar service too so if you need anything you just raise your flag and someone will come and serve you. It is just a 10-minute walk along the beach to the local village where you can get some snacks and a great bottle of local wine for only 6 Euros.
Beau Rivage has four restaurants to choose from, two of which served an extensive buffet breakfast. The main restaurant Rive Gauche served dinner every evening and you could choose from a sumptuous buffet or a la carte. Le Langoustier is a specialist seafood restaurant while La Mediterranee was Italian themed and on the beachfront and open for lunch as well. Indouchine was the hotel’s fusion restaurant. All the food we had was of a very high quality and the service that we received was second to none. Every evening there was live entertainment, starting with a local band and followed by some dancing.
We had a fantastic stay at Beau Rivage and we would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone - we are already planning to go back!
