Big and Beautiful – The Delights of the Dominican Republic

Despite being the second-largest island in the Caribbean, with plenty of unexplored corners and a rich and diverse landscape, the Dominican Republic is often dismissed as merely a package holiday destination to ‘flop and drop’. 

However, when Christopher Columbus discovered it, he described the lush land as “a beautiful island paradise with high forested mountains and large river valleys”.  What’s more it has a colourful tapestry of Spanish, French, Haitian, and African influences and a rich history, offering endless unique, cultural experiences, exotic cuisine and a remarkable variety of art forms. 

Home to rolling mountains, lush jungles, pine forests, coral reefs, unspoilt beaches and arid desert, the Dominican Republic has something for every nature lover, whilst those wanting to get in the thick of things should head to any one of the island’s towns or cities, which include Santiago, La Vega and the Capital city, Santo Domingo.  So, whether you are a nature lover, cigar connoisseur or you simply want to learn the Merengue á la Dirty Dancing, you can be sure to find what you’re looking for in the Dominican Republic.
