Big Island Fun In Hawaii

Located on an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia, the American State of Hawaii is a melting pot of cultures and traditions.  Hawaii is home to hundreds of festivals and events throughout the year which reflect its interesting and eclectic heritage – and many of them are absolutely free!

American Sky offers a choice of fantastic tours and holidays to Hawaii Big Island, Maui, Kauai and Waikiki Beach, however many of Hawaii’s busiest and best festivals happen on the Big Island.

These include:

July 11 – Hawaii Volcanoes National Park’s Cultural Festival
A free festival, featuring Hawaiian music, hula, arts, craft demonstrations, craft sales and more. This annual event helps preserve and teach Hawaiian culture and draws on the experience and knowledge of local artists and practitioners.

July 18 – 19 – Big Island Hawaiian Music Festival
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this annual festival honors the Hawaiian musical heritage by promoting authentic Hawaiian musical traditions.  Hundreds of music-lovers from around the world visit to experience world class musicians share their craft through a series of talk story sessions, a bit like an old fashioned jam session.

August 14 – Hawaii’s World Heritage Festival
Hawaii’s World Heritage Festival showcases the tapestry of people and cultures who have come to Hawaii through dancing, music, demonstrations, fashion, arts, food and products from around the world.

October 19 and November 7 & 14 – Drum & Percussion Festival
This Annual Drum and Percussion Festival is based on the Big Island and features a concert that brings together community percussion groups and performers to celebrate Hawaii’s cultural diversity.  This free outdoor event invites visitors to join in the creative process, offering educational outreach in local schools and a series of percussion workshops.
