The Ferney Trail, Mauritius

With guaranteed sunshine, high temperatures and no rain, October is the best time of year to escape to the exotic island of Mauritius.  Often seen as only appealing to the same kind of tourist, (newlyweds on their honeymoon, excited couples about to get married in paradise or those looking to just fly and flop on the selection of gorgeous beaches) October is the month when those looking for an adventurous getaway with action and a guaranteed adrenaline rush also head to this tropical retreat.  The annual Ferney Trail is held on 2 October on the east coast of the island.  Competitors can run or trek the 10km race or participate in the gruelling 28km race pushing them around sugar cane fields, climbing upwards towards Mataria and across the previously inaccessible Bambous Mountain range.  The challenging route goes off the beaten track through tropical flora and fauna and takes in breathtaking scenery that those who spent the day tanning on the beach miss out on!  And with a selection of five-star all-inclusive resorts to choose from on the island, competitors can find the perfect place to wind down and rest their feet at the end of the day.
