It is a little known fact that St Lucia has a history of chocolate that dates back to the 1700′s.  Cacao trees are plentiful on the island, with over 1000 established in both Anse Mamin Plantation and in Emerald Estate and locals have been harvesting and producing cacao beans for generations so the people of St Lucia know a thing or two about the sweet stuff!

Chocolate-lovers visiting St Lucia in December might be pleased to hear that the Jade Mountain Estate has an annual chocolate festival taking place from 4 – 6 December which involves special talks and demonstrations as well as tours of the Emerald Estate Cocoa Plantation where visitors can give pod-picking and fermentation a go.  Perhaps most importantly though there are plenty of opportunities to gorge on chocolate-inspired canapes, iced chocolate chai and even a chocolate ‘breakfast in bed’.
