Last Minute Bookings No Problem for Tropical Sky

Numerous recent reports have confirmed that many more of us plan to wait until the last minute before booking a holiday, particularly when looking at the Caribbean, Egypt and the Gulf, Indian Ocean, Africa or the far East…

Those studies also reveal that 70% of British holidaymakers will take the same (or more) holidays this year, but this is down from 83% when similar surveys were conducted in September, before the full scale of the recession was apparent.  About a fifth (19%) say they will take fewer holidays this year and 7% say they will not holiday abroad in 2009 at all.

The effects of the recession combined with the collapse of several airlines and the travel giant XL means consumers are more reluctant to commit in advance to discretionary purchases such as holidays, although they still intend to take them. Further survey findings show that many more of us will look to cut the length of our holiday (27%) or seek all-inclusive deals (43%).  For the larger, more bureaucratically rigid, luxury travel operator, accommodating these changes of behaviour will prove almost impossible due to the fixed nature of their proposition.  It’s the customer who has to adapt to what’s available from the bigger companies – take it or leave it even at the luxury end of the market!
