allytwo 300x224 Reethi Beach, Maldives. Would I Go Back? Definitely and the Sooner the Better!

I was fortunate enough to visit Reethi Beach last December during a work trip to the Maldives and immediately fell in love with the resort.

On my return to the UK I knew I wanted to go back so we booked for November this year, however, what a difference the weather makes.

When we arrived in Male it was raining hard, blowing a gale and the sea was really rough. As a consequence the sea planes were delayed but TMS (the airline were brilliant) and offered us complimentary tea and coffee.

Eventually the weather abated and we were able to continue onto Reethi Beach

My heart sank as the seaplane taxied up to the pontoon near the island as the sky was grey and the sea wasnt the gorgeous turquoise colour that I’d been ranting on about. I felt so sorry for my husband, daughter and her boyfriend as I’d painted such an idyllic picture for them. The hotel staff however, were fantastic and we were allocated a deluxe villa right on the beach near to the Beach Bar. The room was lovely and large with a seating area at the front and a large part open air bathroom.

Over the next few days the weather improved and was still overcast and windy but this didnt stop us from sitting on the beach and swimming in the lovely warm sea.  If you’ve not been snorkelling before then I strongly recommend giving it a try as the water is crystal clear especially along the reef. I’ve never seen so many gorgeous shapes and colours before and wish I’d taken up scuba diving.

By the 5th day the weather changed again and at last we saw sun. The sea became turquise again the powdery sand was a blinding white colour – it was heaven. That evening the resort offered us a private dinner on the beach under the stars as we were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The week soon passed and it was time to leave. The best things about Reethi Beach are that the dress code is really relaxed and you dont have to dress for dinner – shorts and t shirts are acceptable. We never wore shoes the whole week as all the pathways are sand, even the bar and games room have sand under foot. There was evening entertainment every night and plenty to do by day if you wish ie: snorkelling and diving trips, boat trips to uninhabited islands and evening cruises.

We were on a Half Board basis which was adequate as we’re not drinkers but it is quite expensive. One evening during Happy Hour we purchased 4 cocktails which cost us US$30 and a litre bottle of water costs $4.50 so it may be worth going All Inclusive if you’re big eaters and drinkers. The food is exceptionally good, however, if you are All Inclusive you will have to pay a supplement to eat in the Maldivian Restaurant, Moodhoo Bar or Beach Grill and this can be upwards of $30 plus.

Would I go back?  Definitely and the sooner the better…..
