Tropical Sky’s very own Ally Tucker recently visited the Aquaventure Water Park in the Atlantis complex, Dubai

We only purchased a day pass to the Water Park which is attached to the new Atlantis Palm Resort, but what a brilliant time we had.  From the time we arrived until the time we left we didn’t sit down once.  The main feature of the Park is a Pyramid-like structure called the Ziggurat, and from this there’s a choice of about five or six water activities, depending on how brave you feel!

The Leap of Faith is definitely for the more adventurous!   This is a freefall water chute like the ones you see at Wet and Wild in Florida.  It’s a near vertical 90 foot slide that shoots you down and through a shark tank (they are the other side of a Perspex tube!)  Once you’ve climbed the four flights of steps and positioned yourself at the top of the slide there’s no going back! Arms and legs are both crossed and before you know it you’re speeding down the vertical drop into the black abyss (an enclosed tunnel) before being dumped into the pool at the end.  The first time I did it I had my eyes closed all the time but the second time (yes I went back again!) was better.  My most important tip – make sure you have good fitting swimwear!!!

There’s also the lazy river where you sit in oversized donut rings with handles and float down the river and through waterfalls.  At one point the river forks, so you can choose if you want the rapids or “wus out” for a far gentler experience! This is ideal for those who are not too keen on “white water” but if you do want an exhilarating experience, walk to the top of the Ziggurat with your donut and ride the roller coaster on a wave back down to the bottom.  At one point you are in complete darkness as you hurtle through the tunnel twisting and turning without being able to see anything!

For small children there is a mini-adventure water park where parents can supervise from their sun lounger around a man-made beach. Even if you don’t have kids in tow, what a fantastic place to be a ‘kid’ again and in the glorious Dubai sunshine.  All in all we had a brilliant time and we hope to go backto Dubai again next year, hopefully for longer.
