Travel Mail Talks Up Tobago

Travel Mail journalist Chris Leadbeater has won Best Online Feature prize at the Caribbean Travel Writer Awards for his depiction of the diminutive island of Tobago. 

Revered for its gorgeous beaches, excellent diving and for being the littler sister to big and brash Trinidad, Chris’s award winning review entitled ‘Tempted by Tobago: Rainforest, reef and Rita Hayworth in the Caribbean’s quietest corner’ is, as the title suggests, all encompassing. 

Chris describes Englishman’s Bay and the turbulent history of some of the nearby beaches, touches on the island’s relationship with Trinidad and affectionately compares its coastline and towns to those in Cornwall.  He’s also thrown in a spot of bird watching, a street party in Buccoo Bay and an interesting taxi journey with Rita Hayworth’s ex chauffeur for good measure. 

It comes as quite a surprise then that he only visited for a week, staying at the Coco Reef Resort with Tropical Sky.  And with his feature as a travel guide who knows where the adventure might end…
