Wow! We have just done a fantastic trip walking with the lions and interacting with the cheetahs on our honeymoon in Mauritius. We booked the trip with Summertime in Mauritius and found them to be very professional and well priced.
Our adventure begun at Safari Adventures, Casela Nature Park in Cascavelle. It was 4,000 rupees per person which is approx £40 and money very well spent. You are first met at the gate with a guide and a safari jeep and taken down to the enclosure.
After a briefing we were all given a big stick and advised to keep it between us and the lions and never to walk in front of them and never bend down to their level as they would think that we wanted to play. The lions are only 22 months old at the moment and have been there and trained from a very young age.
There were six of us in our group and two lions. We walked along with the lions and had various photos taken and the guide was very informative. We walked with them for about an hour and you do need to wear proper shoes as some of the ground is rough.
I was a bit scared at the beginning but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am looking to go back again and do it with my children (although kids do need to be over a certain height to join the tour). The lions are very well trained and all seemed to be very happy.
They then gave us the option to go in with the cheetahs which was another 500 rupees, but again an experience not to be missed. They were all very tame and again all very well looked after.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity as you can only do this in three places in the world and I would thoroughly recommend it if you are in Mauritius as it is a trip not to be missed.
