Marcus says, “In May we went on the 16-day Ecuador and Galapagos tour and the highlight for us was the flora and fauna – we are real nature lovers. The lovely mountain flowers and birds in the Cotopaxi National Park outside Riobamba get you in the mood but then you fly to San Cristobal in the Galapagos islands and the wildlife really comes alive.
We sailed to Kicker rock in the afternoon, where you get your first view of sea lions as you walk along the lovely Cerro Brujo beach. They are highly amusing to watch as they swim, play or just laze around. These guys know what relaxing in the sun is all about!
On Hood Island you get to see blue footed boobies and sometimes the rarer albatross (we didn’t). However, we did get great close-ups pictures of the weirdly prehistoric-looking iguanas. The other highlights were the flightless cormorants (also referred to as the Galapagos cormorant), the only kind of cormorant to lose the power of flight, and the Galapagos penguins on the island of Fernandina, which are small and very cute.”
