Our Specialist Travel Advisor Ally tells us of her recent trip to Zoetry Agua Resort & Spa, Dominican Republic…
This was our first experience of Zoetry with its ‘Endless Privileges’ the hotel has great potential to be one of the best in the Dominican Republic.
The resort is small with only 53 suites/villas. We had booked a junior garden suite which is the lead-in room category. We were amazed at the size of the room with its 4 poster bed, open plan vanity unit, separate shower/bath and separate toilet and bidet. We also had a large balcony with table and chairs as well as 2 rattan soft cushioned chairs overlooking the manicured gardens, duck pond and serpentine pool. The hotel is an All Inclusive resort and you receive a bottle of rum on arrival and daily bottle of champagne. (This is kept on ice until you ask for it) Also in our room were Bvlgari toiletries, stocked mini bar, daily fruit bowl, bath robes, slippers, plasma TV, Ipod docking station with alarm clock and tea/coffee maker.
There’s a central path which runs through the property with the 1 and 2 bed villas on one side and the 2 storey junior suites on the other. There’s also junior beachfront suites complete with their own Jacuzzi pool right on the beach. The duck pond is about half way down and bread is put out daily so you can feed them and the koi carp. The 3 restaurants are called The Fork, The Amaya and Indigo. All are excellent allthough some guests may think the portions look small but certainly it was enough for us. It wasn’t until the last couple of days that we realised we could eat ‘off menu’ so if you fancy lobster or shrimp for a change just give the kitchens 24 hours notice and it’ll be done for you! I can certainly recommend the fillet steak – its so tender and juicy.
The staff are extremely friendly and will bend over backwards to make you stay memorable. Most of them understand English although certain things did get lost in translation, for example, one morning we ordered toast for breakfast and that’s what we got – no butter or marmalade just dry toast and if you order coffee for room service, make sure you also order milk and sugar as well.
Christina, who is in charge of activities does a brilliant stretching session on the beach every morning at 9.30 and this is a great start to the day. Her English is excellent so we spoke to her regularly to translate for us as neither of us spoke Spanish. Every day you also get an Entertainment programme in your room so you can try your hand at Cigar rolling, Spanish or Merengue Lessons and the programme will also feature ‘Tea of the Day’ and ‘Cocktail of the Day’ so please go and see Gregorio in the Canoa Bar near reception as he has such an infectious laugh and mixes great cocktails!
Unfortunately, the weather was quite chilly the first 3 days we were there but it gave us a great opportunity to visit the Spa and soak in the lovely heated pool and Jacuzzi. We also enjoyed our complimentary 20 minute massage but beware, those girls have extremely strong fingers!!
All in all, we had a memorable time and cant praise the staff highly enough. The hotel is certainly different to others we’ve been to and provides a great relaxing break away!
