Day 1

You will be collected from your hotel to drive to the airport for your short early morning flight. Once airbourne, you may glimpse the Buccoo Reef and Pigeon Point, before heading off over the sea and the tropical forest of the Northern Range to Piarco International Airport, Trinidad. After being met by your guide, you will be driven along the scenic route to the Asa Wright Nature Reserve. Here you can sit on the large verandah and watch a myriad of birds skimming from one treetop to another, being totally amazed at the variety and abundance of birds and butterflies to be seen. Following a walk along the trail, there is an option to stay here for lunch or you can choose to begin your journey to the capital, Port of Spain, a city with a rich cultural heritage, from the Spanish, French, Portuguese, British, Syrian, Chinese, Indian and African to name a few! A short pause for lunch along the way - because there is much to see - from Mt St Benedict, where you can look south over the Caroni Plain as far as the San Fernando Hill, followed by a stop at the Lady Young Road lookout to take in the breath-taking view over the city of POS, with a sky line of old colonial buildings and a few futuristic high rise hotels and offices - the port of P.O.S. is in the background and beyond the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Paria. The city is hustle and bustle and the traffic at times heavy but it gives an opportunity to look around and take in the atmosphere.
Reaching your hotel and after checking in, relax by the pool with a rum punch or one of the local beers - Carib or Stag. Come early evening it will be time to experience one of the many and varied local restaurants and for the adventurous, a popular local bar. If it’s Carnival time, go visit the mas camps, where sequined costumes are made or the pan yards, where panmen practice for the steelband competition called Panorama. Your taxi-guide will stay with you for this and see that you return safely to your hotel.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, leave your hotel for a City Tour, which can be combined with some shopping in one of the sleek new air-conditioned malls. The Magnificent Seven are seven architecturally different buildings dating circa 1900 – they include Whitehall, Stollymeyer’s Castle, Queens Royal College and all are situated on the edge of the Savannah, POS’s largest open space, consisting of 175 acres of parkland surrounded by a road, making it a 3.7 km roundabout! On the Savannah there is a horseracing track, over 20 cricket pitches, football and rugby pitches in addition to the Botanical Gardens! Then there is the Red House, the Anglican and Catholic churches and Woodford Square, art galleries, temples and mosques, plus Frederick Street, with its pavement vendors. If you prefer you can choose to visit instead the vantage point of Fort George and Chaguaramas, a US naval base during World War 2. Just let the guide know what you are interested in and he will take you there. After a lunch of your choice, it’s off to the Caroni Swamp, to take a long-boat ride to view thousands of unbelievably brilliant scarlet ibis, winging their way home to roost after a long day foraging for the little pink crabs which give them their colour. The trip starts around 4pm and ends at 6.15pm so from here will be the 40minutes drive back to the airport and after saying fond farewells to your guide, check-in for the short flight back to Tobago, taking with you many memories and photographs of your short stay. A taxi will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

Take with you – passport for id, sunscreen, insect repellant, bite cream, a hat, wear comfortable shoes, swimwear, camera, credit cards are accepted, some local cash (TT$), some US dollars if you wish rather than pounds.
For hotels dress code is elegantly casual for dinner, long trousers for men.
Try to have only hand luggage, so that precious time is not wasted waiting for luggage.
