Get an insight into authentic Thai living, encountering small villages, friendly locals and destinations well off the beaten track. Visit the notorious killing caves at Battambang and the fabled temples of Angkor. Explore rural Cambodia and bustling Phnom Penh with its colonial buildings and historical sites. Travel to Kirirom National Park and Koh Kong before crossing the border back into Thailand. This is a private guided tour and can be completely tailored to suit you. (EXO)

Details

Day 1

Arrive in Bangkok

Today you’ll arrive in Bangkok and begin sightseeing by visiting the Grand Palace where you’ll see the throne halls and the stunning Emerald Buddha. Later you’ll visit the impressive reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. Overnight in Bangkok.

Day 2

Bangkok/Chachoengsao

Today you’ll take a short train journey to Chachoengsao – a little-known town to the east of the capital. See the beautiful Italian-marbled temple of Wat Sathornwararam Worawhiharn then continue on to see the Chinese shrine at Wat Leng Hok Yee. Later in the day you’ll visit a canal side market before stopping to overnight at Bang Pa Kong.

Day 3

Chachoengsao/Battambang

Today you’ll cross the border into Cambodia. Here you’ll meet your Cambodian guide who will assist you with immigration and customs formalities. You’ll then drive east along to Battambang along a tree-lined highway. This friendly city has become a favourite in Cambodia thanks to its charming French colonial architecture and historical sights.

Day 4

Battambang

Today you’ll visit a number of small villages situated around Battambang where you’ll see temples, beautiful countryside and visit a handicraft centre.

Day 5

Battambang/Siem Reap

Today you’ll take a stunning boat ride from Battambang to Siem Reap. On the way you’ll get to see the Prek Toal bird sanctuary and the pretty Tonle Sap Lake. (Note that the boat trip is only possible from July to December, from January to June alternative road transfer is used). You’ll arrive in Siem Reap in the mid-afternoon where you’ll have some free time to relax.

Day 6-7

Siem Reap

Siem Reap’s key feature is its proximity to the amazing Angkor Archaeological Park and so over the next two days you’ll spend your time exploring this remarkable place taking in the ancient beauty of Angkor Wat and the ruins of Angkor Thom. You’ll also go on a relaxed bike ride, visit a silk farm and get the chance to shop at an authentic local market.

Day 8

Kampong Thom/Sambor Prei Kuk

Today you’ll leave early for Kampong Thom, enjoying the amazing sights of rice paddy fields and traditional villages along the way. Later you’ll visit Sambor Prei Kuk, which has a number of beautiful temples and breathtaking views.

Day 9-10

Phnom Penh

On day nine you’ll transfer to Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. This charming yet vibrant city retains its colonial charm, and there are a number of things to do here. You’ll head out in a cyclo and see the National Museum, the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. In the evening enjoy a sunset river cruise.

Day 10 sees you visiting the famous Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to learn about some of Cambodia’s tragic recent history. Later in the afternoon visit the Apsara Arts Association to learn more about traditional Cambodian culture, dance and music.

Day 11

Kirirom National Park

Today you’ll transfer to Kirirom National Park at the edge of the Cardamom Mountains. Here you’ll go on a trek to get to know the jaw-dropping scenic beauty include the 40-metre high Chambok Waterfall. In the afternoon you’ll ride on a traditional ox-card and visit a bat cave.

Day 12-13

Koh Kong

Today you’ll transfer to your amazing floating bungalow accommodation at Koh Kong. You’ll then have plenty of leisure time to relax and take in the scenery. On day 13 you’ll take a cruise into the mangroves and visit local fishing communities before returning to your accommodation.

Day 14

Koh Chang

After breakfast you’ll depart and cross the border back into Thailand where you’ll take a car and boat transfer to your hotel in Koh Chang.

Day 15-16

Koh Chang

The next two days are yours at leisure to enjoy the beautiful island of Koh Chang.

Day 17

Bangkok/Departure

Have breakfast at the hotel then transfer back to mainland Thailand and on to Bangkok where you can catch your return flight.
