Overview

Enjoy 15 days of amazing exploration on this tour showing off a unique side of China. Journey through this incredible country using small rural roads and passing tiny villages – it’s your chance to learn about a part of China that is barely known outside of its borders. Start off seeing the fantastic sights in Beijing before hiking the Great Wall, visiting a Shaolin monastery and journeying to Xi’an to see the Terracotta Warriors. After exploring the stunning countryside you’ll have a change of pace with a visit to Hong Kong. (GA)

Details

Day 1

Beijing

Arrive in Beijing.

Day 2-4

Beijing/Great Wall

On the second day you’ll discover the history of China’s capital city by visiting two of its most famous landmarks – the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. You’ll also go on a cycling tour of the city’s ancient alleyways, known as hutongs.

On the third and fourth days you’ll visit the iconic Great Wall and hike along a section of it. The night of the third day you’ll sleep in a farmer’s homestay where you’ll get to learn about local life and learn to make traditional dumplings. On the fourth day you’ll return to Beijing where you’ll catch an overnight sleeper train to Luoyang – the journey takes around 11 hours.

Day 5-6

Song Shan

In the morning of day five you’ll arrive in Luoyang where you’ll transfer to the holy mountain of Song Shan. Here you’ll spend the night in a Shaolin monastery. Famous for the ancient Chinese martial art of kung fu, you’ll be able to learn all about the culture and history Shaolin monks and their practices.

On the sixth day you’ll enjoy a hike in San Dengfeng Village and enjoy the natural scenery of Song Shan National Forest Park.

Day 7-8

Xi’an

On the seventh day you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Longmen Grottoes, which features over 100,000 images of Buddha carved into a mountain side, before traveling to Xi’an by train.

On the eighth day you’ll have free time to explore Xi’an. Enjoy an orientation walk then visit the historic Muslim Quarter of the city in the evening

Day 9-10

Yangshuo

On day 9 you’ll have a couple of hour’s spare time to visit the Terracotta Warriors, before taking a flight to Guilin and transferring to Yangshuo. On day 10 you will take an orientation walk around the village before an afternoon of leisure – you can cycle around the village, try out a cooking class or tai chi class, or see a light and sound show

Day 11

Yangshuo

On day 11 you will enjoy a cycle tour around the village.

Day 12

Yangshuo/Longji

On day 12 you will take the bus from Yangshuo to Guilin, where you’ll then trek towards Ping’an/Longsheng to visit the village.

Day 13

Longji

Hike about 18km (4-5 hrs) from Ping'an to Dazhai via Zhongliu and enjoy the views of endless rice paddies and green trees on the hillsides. Then take the bus back to Ping’an

Day 14

Hong Kong

Get the fast train to Shenzhen and then cross the border. From here you’ll catch a metro in Hong Kong where you’ll be able to explore the city – undoubtedly one of the most impressive in Asia.

Day 15

Hong Kong

Depart Hong Kong today. (Transfer is not included)
