Details

Day 1

Beijing

On arrival in Beijing you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. This evening enjoy a Welcome Reception to meet your Tour guide and fellow passengers.

Day 2

Beijing, Forbidden City

Today you’ll start the day with a visit to the world’s largest city square, Tian’amen Square before moving onto the Word Heritage listed Forbidden City, a fine example of ancient Chinese architecture which was home to Chinese emperors between 1420-1924. The afternoon is at leisure and then in the evening you will enjoy a traditional Peking banquet at a local city restaurant.

Day 3

Beijing, The Great Wall of China

After breakfast, you’ll head out to the Great Wall of China, you’ll take a cable car to the best preserved section of the wall, the Mutianyu section, where there are fantastic panoramic views. Then it’s onto the Ming Dynasty Tombs to marvel at these incredible statues.  Heading back to the city you’ll visit a traditional jade factory, then the Olympic Stadium including the famous Bird’s Nest Tower. This evening is at leisure to explore the city at night time or perhaps take in a Kung Fu Show.

Day 4

Beijing, Yichang, Embark Cruise

This morning, take a pedi cab ride through the small alleyways of ancient Beijing, to see what traditional local life is like, visit a Chinese family. You’ll then be transferred to the airport for your flight to Yichang. Then in the afternoon board your river ship for your four night cruise on the Yagtse River. This evening enjoy dinner on board.

Day 5

Three Gorges Dam, Xiling Gorge

Today you’ll begin your four-night cruise through the beautifully scenic Three Gorge region. Today you’ll pass through Three Gorges Dam and later, the longest and deepest of the gorges Xiling Gorge.

Day 6

Daning River, Wu Gorge, Qutang Gorge

If you’re feeling energetic why not rise early this morning and enjoy some onboard Tai Chi before breakfast? Today, you’ll cruise through the smaller but equally breath-taking Three Lesser Gorges: Dragon Gate, Misty and Emerald Green. You’ll then sail by the sheer peaks and towering cliffs of Wu Gorge. After lunch on board, continue onto the narrowest and most dramatic of the Gorges, Qutang Gorge.

Day 7

Shibao Zhai, Fengdu

Today you’ll disembark your ship and be wowed by the amazing feat of architecture that is the fortress of Shibao Zhai, an impressive 9 floor pavilion set on top of an extremely steep rocky cliff face. Then it’s onto the famous Fengdu Ghost City, a large complex of shrines and temples dedicated to the afterlife.

Day 8

Chongqing, Xi’an

This morning you’ll disembark your boat in Chongqing, the city has a significant history and is the economic centre of the Yangste basin, you’ll visit the zoo here to see amongst their 200 different animal species, the two hectare Panda House, home to the famous Giant Pandas. Later in the afternoon you’ll fly onto Xi’an, where this evening you’ll enjoy the Tang Dynasty performance and a dumpling banquet.

Day 9

Xi’an, Terracotta Army

As well as visiting the three excavation sites at the Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses, you’ll also visit a clay factory where the warriors were originally made and are still made today – it’s truly fascinating. This evening visit the Muslim Quarter of the city and enjoy dinner from the numerous street food stalls.

Day 10

Xi’an, Shanghai, Wuzhen

Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure before flying to Shanghai, where you’ll travel a few more hours to the ancient Water Town of Wuzhen, the town is built around a series of canals and is beautifully picturesque. Tonight you’ll stay in a traditional Ming and Qing Dynasty-style guesthouse.

Day 11

Shanghai

Before heading back to Shanghai, this morning you’ll take a river boat cruise and see the town from the water’s edge. Once back in the city, check into your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 12

Shanghai

Live like a local today and experience a traditional tea ceremony at the Yu Yuan Gardens. The gardens themselves are spectacular and well worth a wander afterwards. In the afternoon enjoy a city riverboat cruise and then this evening enjoy a farewell dinner at Ding Tai Fung, famed for its steamed dumplings.

Day 13

Depart Shanghai

After breakfast the tour ends today, so choose whether to fly home or onward to your next destination.
