Overview

This 15-day journey takes you from China to Tibet and then on to where the tour ends in Nepal. On the way you’ll enjoy some truly amazing experiences including climbing to the iconic Mount Everest Base Camp and taking in the spectacular scenery from the Trans Tibetan Railway. You’ll also get the chance to look around two of Asia’s most amazing capital cities, Beijing and Kathmandu. (GCL)

Details

Day 1

Beijing

Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the hotel where you will meet with the tour group, followed by an optional dinner.

Day 2

Great Wall

Today you’ll travel north from Beijing to a section of China’s famous Great Wall at Mutianyu. Spend your time marvelling at this engineering masterpiece and get a sense of the history of this incredible country.

Day 3-4

Trans Tibetan Rail Journey

On the morning of the third day you’ll visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with a little free time to shop in markets throughout the city, take a tour of the alleyways or visit a monastery. You will then transfer to the train station in the evening.

You’ll then go on the Trans Tibetan Rail Journey which takes around 46 hours. This long trip rewards you with awe-inspiring scenery as you glide through northern China and across onto the Tibetan Plateau.

Day 5-8

Lhasa

You’ll arrive in Lhasa in the evening of the fifth day. You’ll be here for three nights and during that time you’ll go on an orientation walk of Barkhor Square, visit the resplendent Jokhang Temple, see Potala Palace and then head to either the Sera or Drepung Monastery.

Day 9

Gyantse

Today you’ll drive to Gyantse crossing three amazing passes and weaving along the edge of the stunning turquoise lake of Yamdrok Tso on your way. Here you’ll have a leisurely day enjoying the scenery and visiting the Pelkor Chode Monastery.

Day 10

Gyantse/Tingri

Today you’ll drive to Gyantse crossing three amazing passes and weaving along the edge of the stunning turquoise lake of Yamdrok Tso on your way. Here you’ll have a leisurely day enjoying the scenery and visiting the Pelkor Chode Monastery.

Day 11

Sakya

After travelling to Sakya today you can explore the monastery and visit the ruins of north Sakya found across the river.

Day 12

Everest Base Camp

On the day 12 you’ll drive to Rombuk which is found only 7km below Everest Base Camp – so you’re guaranteed spectacular views. You’ll then hike to the Base Camp itself (with an optional bus ride if you’re not feeling up to the climb). From here you’ll enjoy the stunning views from one of the world’s most iconic locations.

Day 13

Zhangmu

Today you’ll drive down to the highway – this takes approximately four hours and it is a bumpy ride, but the views make it worth it. You’ll then drive to Zhangmu where you’ll be staying the night.

Day 14

Kathmandu

After a short drive you’ll reach the border with Nepal and then drive down the winding road to Kathmandu, the capital city. Here you’ll have time for sightseeing and shopping before a final dinne with your tour group.

Day 15

Kathmandu

Depart Kathmandu at your leisure. (Transfer is not included)
