Overview

See China’s most iconic sights mixed in with some hidden treasures on his 21-day tour through the heart of the country. As well as historical and archaeological treasures you’ll enjoy trips to some of the country’s great natural wonders. Starting and ending in amazing cities – Beijing and Hong Kong respectively – you’ll head southwest to encounter some superb sights including the world-famous Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, Tiger Leaping Gorge and the stunning countryside of Yangshuo. Details

Day 1

Beijing

Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your hotel. You’ll then have your first meeting with your tour group which is a good chance to get to know each other.

Day 2-3

Beijing/Great Wall

Your second day takes you to one of China’s most iconic sites – the Great Wall. You’ll visit it at Mutianyu before returning to Beijing in the evening. On the third day you’ll visit the famous Tiananmen Square before seeing the impressive palace, the Forbidden City. The rest of the evening is free to do as you wish. You’ll then take an overnight train to Xi’an – the journey lasts approximately 14 hours.

Day 4-5

Xi’an/Terracotta Warriors

You’ll arrive in the afternoon of day four giving you the time to take an orientation walk around the Muslim Quarter with its impressive market and mosque. On the fifth day you’ll take a visit to see the Terracotta Warriors situated a short drive away from the city. You’ll then return to Xi’an to catch an overnight train to Chengdu – the journey takes around 17 hours.

Day 6

Xi'an/Emei Shan 

The day is free for you to explore Xi'an, before your overnight train to Emei Shan

Day 7-8

Emei Shan

On day seven you will arrive in Emei Shan, one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China, were you'll have the unique opportunity to stay in a basic monastery. Day eight will be spent hiking around the area, or taking a cable car.

Day 9

Chengdu

In the morning you will visit the city of Leshan to marvel at the giant Buddha, before continuing on to the lively city of Chengdu. In the evening head to the traditional Sichuan Opera to see the singing, comedy, puppetry and 'changing faces' acts.

Day 10

Lijiang

In the morning you’ll visit the nearby panda breeding centre where you’ll be able to see giant pandas and red pandas up close in a relatively natural environment, before flying to the World Heritage-listed town of Lijiang with its arty vibe and picturesque buildings and bridges.

Day 11

Lijiang

Today is free for you to explore Lijiang. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the Black Dragon Pool Park, or listen to local Naxi music.

Day 12

Hetaoyuan

In the morning you will trek Tiger Leaping Gorge - reportedly one of the deepest gorges in the world, it’s a remarkably beautiful area which the Yangtze River flows through.

Day 13

Lijiang

In the morning you will continue the trek through Tiger Leaping Gorge, before returning back to Lijiang in the evening.

Day 14-15

Dali

On day 14 you’ll explore the magnificent walled city of Dali. It sits in a stunning location between the Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake and is perhaps most famous for the impressive Three Pagodas of Chong Sheng Temple. You’ll have two days here at leisure to explore as you like with opportunities to visit temples or go on a boat trip.

Day 16

Kunming

Today you’ll travel by bus to Kunming, the capital of the Yunnan province. Once you’ve arrived you go on a city tour that takes you to the flower and bird market. This is followed by a trip to Green Lake Park.

Day 17-19

Yangshuo

In the morning of the 17th day you’ll have a little more time to explore Kunming before taking flight to Guilin. This is followed by a short bus ride to Yangshuo. This awe-inspiring area has some of the most breath-taking sights China has to offer which a gorgeous array of features including mountains, rivers and rice paddies.

During your three days here you’ll enjoy a cruise on the Li River with truly jaw-dropping mountain vistas. You also have plenty of free time here to discover the wonders of the city. You can take a cooking class, watching incredible live entertainment or just go exploring. In the afternoon of day 19 you’ll head to the train station and take a 13 hour train ride to Shenzhen on the border with Hong Kong.

Day 20

Hong Kong

Today you’ll cross the border into Hong Kong and catch a metro to the city centre. Here you can take a look around this impressive city at your leisure – explore Stanley Park, eat at one of the markets or take a harbour cruise.

Day 21

Hong Kong

Depart Hong Kong at any time.
