Following the course of the Irrawaddy River, journey along its banks and peaceful waters, exploring the cities, towns and villages found nearby. From the vibrant city of Yangon, visit majestic pagodas and learn about its captivating history and how farmers use the Irrawaddy River for their livelihood. Details

Day 1

Arrive in Yangon

Arrive in Yangon where you’ll transfer to your hotel, check in and then meet your tour guide. You’ll then go on a city tour, taking in some of the most impressive sites. There are three optional activities you can also opt for, including a rickshaw tour, relax in the tea room of the hotel or a ceremony at a pagoda.

Day 2

Yangon/Pyay

Spend the morning in Yangon checking out some of the sights including the pretty Sule Pagoda. In the afternoon you’ll transfer to Yangon railway station where you’ll catch a scenic train journey to Pyay, lasting approximately six-and-a-half hours. When you arrive you’ll check in and then have time to relax.

Day 3

Pyay

After breakfast at the hotel on day three you visit Pyay jetty to experience an authentic local market. You’ll also see the enormous sitting Buddha statue – one of the cultural highlights of the town. In the afternoon you’ll visit the ancient city of Thayeikhittaya and explore the ruins, before returned to Pyay to see the night market.

Day 4

Pyay/Magway

After breakfast you’ll drive to Magway, passing fields and picturesque towns en-route. You’ll visit the ancient city of Beikthano, known to be over 2,000 years old, before you head on to Magway. When you arrive, take a look at the famous Mya Tha Lun Pagoda before checking into your hotel.

Day 5

Pwint Bhyu/Min Bu

On day 5 you’ll drive to the northern bank of the Irrawaddy River where you’ll find the Pwint Bhyu township and its beautiful Kyaung Taw Yar Pagoda. Later in the day you’ll visit Dragon Lak and the pagoda of the Min Bu township – here you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Irrawaddy.

Day 6

Bagan

Today you’ll take a scenic drive to Bagan passing interesting and diverse landscapes. On arrival in Bagan you’ll check in to your hotel and then take a local boat for a slow cruise on the Irrawaddy River.  Take in the beautiful scenery before heading back to Bagan.

Day 7

Bagan

Have breakfast at a local tea shop and then explore the truly beautiful Bagan. Visit a number of magnificent temples, pagodas and monasteries. There optional activities including an early morning balloon flight over Bagan (only available late October to late March) or the opportunity to take part in some responsible tourism by planting a tree.

Day 8

Bagan/Mandalay

On day eight you’ll visit the Ngat Pyit Taung Monastery and see some amazing caves. Afterwards you’ll get the chance to look around a local primary school. In the afternoon you’ll visit a rarely-seen rural village called Minnanthu. In the evening you’ll catch a flight to Mandalay where you’ll spend the night.

Day 9

Mandalay/Mingun

After breakfast you’ll get on a private local boat for an hour-long cruise on the Irrawaddy to Mingun. Here you’ll visit a number of the lovely sites including the pagoda and the Mingun Bell. You’ll return to Mandalay by boat to see the impressive pagodas found here. Optional activities include a balloon ride experience and a marionette workshop.

Day 10

Departure

After breakfast you’ll transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
