Overview

This 17-day adventure takes you from Vietnam into Cambodia and then back to Vietnam for some of the most incredible sights and sounds you’ll find in south-east Asia. The tour includes cruises on the mighty Mekong River and the tranquil Ha Long Bay, as well as trips to the two countries’ dynamic cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh. You’ll even get the chance to see the authentic beauty of Angkor Wat. (APT)

Details

Day 1

Arrival in Hanoi

On arrival you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. Later you’ll attend a welcome dinner with your tour group.

Day 2

Hanoi

Today you’ll take in the impressive sights of Vietnam’s capital city. This includes a trip to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and later on a visit to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre for an evening of traditional Vietnamese entertainment.

Day 3-4

Ha Long Bay

After breakfast in Hanoi you’ll transfer to Ha Long Bay for a two night cruise in this truly breathtaking environment. While on-board you’ll get the chance to admire the stunning scenery and stop off at a number of the tiny islands to explore. On day four you’ll take a smaller boat so some of the less-visited parts of the bay. Weather-permitting, you’ll get the chance to go kayaking, cave exploring and swimming.

Day 5

Hanoi/Siem Reap

Today you’ll disembark from your boat after breakfast then travel back to Hanoi where you’ll catch a flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia. Once you’ve arrived, check in to the hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Day 6-7

Siem Reap/Angkor

Over the next two days you’ll spend time exploring the famous Angkor Archaeological Park which contains a number of amazing temples and preserved ruins. On day seven you’ll visit nearby Ta Phrom and then later experience the sunset over Angkor Wat.

Day 8-14

Mekong River Cruise

From Siem Reap you’ll board your river ship to start your cruise on the Mekong River. In the evening of day eight you’ll have a welcome dinner aboard. The next day you’ll take a small boat trip to the river-mouth lake of Tonle Sap and take a look at the remarkable scenery before heading back to the ship and visiting the town of Kampong Tralach.

On day 10 you’ll learn about local lifestyle in the silk-weaving village, Chong Koh before heading towards the Cambodia capital Phnom Penh. On day 11 you’ll reach Phnom Penh where you’ll see the wonderful Silver Pagoda before taking an excursion to the famous Killing Fields.  After dinner you’ll have free time to explore the city.

On day 12 you’ll cross the border back into Vietnam and then visit the town of Tan Chau. Day 13 sees you transferring to a small boat and exploring the estuaries of the Mekong. Later you’ll climb ashore at Tan Chau and take a look around the town. On the last full day of your cruise you’ll visit the city of Sa Dec and the town of Cai Be with its gothic French cathedral.

Day 15-16

Ho Chi Minh City

Disembarking on day 15 you’ll reach Ho Chi Minh City, previously known as Saigon. On your first night here take the time to relax. The next day sees you visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels, a network of tunnels used by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the Vietnam War.

Day 17

Depart

Today you’ll depart Ho Chi Minh City.
