Day 1

Ho Chi Minh City

Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on your chosen flight and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2

Ho Chi Minh City

Depart your hotel for a full day tour of the city. There are so many sights to see, you’ll spend time in the Chinatown district, Cholon where you can wander through the streets and markets and take in the Chinese influenced architecture. Heading back to the city send time wandering around Ben Thanh Market and see the incredible range of local produce on offer, you’re guide will be able to point out the best food stalls for lunch. In the afternoon your guide will explain all the other things to see and you can chose where you want to spend your time, be it the War Remnants Museum, History Museum, or the Presidential Palace. You can also visit any of the major colonial sights of the city, the Old Saigon Post Office, the Opera House and City Hall to name but a few. Your vehicle will be on hand at all times, but walking through this compact city is a great option.

Day 3

Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta

This morning, leave bustling Ho Chi Minh for the 2 hour drive to the delta town of Cai Be. The colourful floating market, vast emerald rice fields and lush back waterways make it such a stunningly picturesque contract to your last couple of days. On arrival board your boat for cruise in the Delta’s waterways. Start your journey by passing by Cai Be’s floating market, once a busy place to trade fruits and vegetables and nowadays a more quiet market. Then, continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island; along the way admire the scenery and the daily life of the local villagers. Lunch will be local Mekong style serving specialties of the area. Following your cruise drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 4

Hoi An

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your short flight to Danang. On arrival, transfer to Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries whose architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchants’ homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market. The rest of the day is yours at leisure to enjoy your hotel or explore some more.

Day 5

Hue

Leave Hoi An for Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. The journey is incredibly scenic, you’ll climb over the Pass of Ocean Clouds and drop down to the wonderfully photogenic fishing village of Lang Co. In Hue visit the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. After exploring the ruins of this wonderful monument depart for Thien Mu (Celestial Lady) Pagoda overlooking the Perfume River.

Day 6

Hue, Hanoi

Start your day with a visit to the city’s vibrant Dong Ba Market to see it’s abundance of fresh produce.  After exploring the market take a cyclo through the city. Afterwards, transfer to Hue airport for your one hour flight to Hanoi.

Day 7

Halong Bay

Following breakfast leave Hanoi for a 3hr 30mins drive to Halong where you will board your ship for your overnight cruise. After your welcome onboard, a lunch will be served while cruising towards the bay itself. In the afternoon, enjoy some visits and/or activities (depending on each boat’s itinerary) or just spend some time relaxing on board. Towards the end of the day the boat sets anchor for the night among the karst formations. Dinner is served on board.

Day 8

Halong Bay, Hanoi

Enjoy your fresh morning in the middle of the bay, the sun rises on Halong in the morning and breakfast is served (brunch on some boats) while the vessels cruises slowly through the magnificent rock formations and back towards port. Disembark and transfer back to Hanoi. Once back in Hanoi your guide will tailor a city tour to your requirements and flight timings the following day.

You could visit many of the interesting museums such as the Ethnology Museum or the Vietnam Woman’s Museum. An absolute must is a wander around the Old Quarter where all the streets are named after the goods that were traded on those streets in ancient times and many still today. If time permits try and fit in a traditional Water Puppet show.

Day 9

Hanoi

Today, if time allows, you can see some more sights of this amazing city. Visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university which functioned for an incredible 700 years. The One Pillar Pagoda, is worth a look and one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples. Also not to be missed is the mausoleum of the historic father figure of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, and the former presidents house on stilts where he lived from 1958 to 1969.

Take a stroll along the banks of picturesque West Lake and see the various pagodas and temples that line the shores whilst watching the local life stroll by. Then if there’s still time, there’s always souvenir shopping to be done before transferring to the airport for your onward flight.
