Day 1

Luang Prabang

Welcome to Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. At dusk, the wonderful panoramic view at the top of Mount Phousi is well worth the climb up the 328 steps. Return to your hotel via the evening hilltribe market where you’ll find plenty of handicraft and textile stalls.

Day 2

Luang Prabang, Pak Ou

Start this morning with a visit to one the most picturesque temples in Laos, Wat Xieng Thong. Then walk to the boat pier, near the temple, to board the Nava Mekong, a beautiful wooden river boat for a cruise up the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves. Here you will see thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues crammed into two caves carved out of a towering limestone cliff. The statues range in size from a few centimetres tall to the size of a human, and the view from the mouth of the cave provides sweeping views of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers.

Back onboard, you will be served a delicious traditional Lao lunch before returning downstream to Luang Prabang. This afternoon, you will have a chance to learn more about this culturally rich and history city with a guided tour. This evening, why not ask your guide to reserve seats for a performance at the Royal Ballet Theatre.

Day 3

Luang Prabang, Vientiane

Today you will fly to the capital city of Vientiane, which has got to be one of the quietest capitals in the world, far away from the bustle and hustle of other Asian capitals. Upon arrival set off to enjoy a guided tour to discover it’s hidden charms, incredible temples and tranquil shrines.

Day 4

Vientiane, Hanoi

This morning your guide will take you out to the Thai-Laos border to visit Buddha Park, a slightly eccentric park filled with over 200 Buddhist and Hindu temples. Back in Vientiane, visit a local charity working with landmine victims and what is being done about landmine clearance in the region. In the afternoon take a flight to Hanoi, where you’ll be welcomed by your guide and taken to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and its’ second largest city. It celebrated 1,000 years in 2010 and has countless fascinating cultural and historic sites.

Day 5

Hanoi

Today you’ll spend the whole day exploring this fascinating city with your personal guide, who will tailor the day to your exact requirements. The Temple of Literature was Vietnam’s first University founded in 1076 and it’s a great place to start, followed by the ancient One Pillar Pagoda, you can really get a feel of the history this city is steeped in. Close by it the impressive mausoleum of the historic figure and father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. Then it’s on to picturesque West Lake to view the ancient pagodas here. If time allows you can also take in some of the city’s excellent museums, but make sure you leave time to explore the Old Quarter in the afternoon. This area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shops and is bustling with street life and character.

Day 6

Hoi An

This morning take a short flight to Danang City, on arrival your private vehicle will be waiting for you for the 40-minute drive to Hoi An. A destination with two faces – the charming, old-world trading port of narrow streets and traditional houses, and the beach with its new resorts and long stretch of clean white sand. In keeping with Hoi An’s heritage as a trading port, the town’s tiny shop houses now host a range of craft shops and artisans including some of Asia’s best bespoke tailors. Despite the passing of 200 years and the ravages of weather and war, the centre of Hoi An remains much the same as it was in its heyday.  Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit former merchants’ houses, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, a Chinese communal hall and the colorful market.

Day 7

Hue

Have this morning at leisure before leaving Hoi An for Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. The drive is stunning, climbing over the Pass of Ocean Clouds and dropping down to the wonderfully photogenic fishing village of Lang Co. Once in Hue, you’ll explore the fascinating ancient citadel with it’s mesmerizing tombs and mausoleums of the last emperors of Vietnam reveal fascinating insights into the lives of the imperial families and their subjects.

Day 8

Hue

Today will be spent with your guide really exploring the city like a local. You’ll take a cyclo tour through the “Old City” to Tinh Tam Lake where you’ll see many locals sitting and enjoying their morning Vietnamese coffee. You’ll then have a chance to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda overlooking the Perfume River and the ornamental tombs of former ancient emperors and leaders. End the day with a visit to the city’s vibrant Dong Ba Market, which is an experience in itself!

Day 9

Hi Chi Minh City

You will take a morning flight after breakfast to the dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still referred to as Saigon by the locals. Today you will take a full day tour of Ho Chi Minh City. Your program includes the Reunification Hall, formerly known as the Presidential Palace it was towards this modern building that North Vietnamese tanks seized on the morning of April 30 1975, as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history still fresh in the minds of many. From there stroll to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall. After this historical visit continue to the War Remnants Museum where exhibition halls display imagery of both the French and ‘American’ wars. Continue to the Jade Emperor Pagoda located on the fringes of district 1. Dating from 1909 and built by Cantonese Buddhists this quiet oasis was designed using feng shui principals showcasing ornate statues and effigies.

Day 10

Mekong Delta

This morning, leave bustling Ho Chi Minh for the 2 hour drive to the delta town of Cai Be. The colourful floating market, vast emerald rice fields and lush back waterways make it such a stunningly picturesque contract to your last couple of days. On arrival board your boat for cruise in the Delta’s waterways. Start your journey by passing by Cai Be’s floating market, once a busy place to trade fruits and vegetables and nowadays a more quiet market. Then, continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island; along the way admire the scenery and the daily life of the local villagers. Lunch will be local Mekong style serving specialties of the area. Following your cruise drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 11

Ho Chi Minh, Siem Reap

This morning, you’ll start early to get a genuine insight into a real Vietnamese kitchen. Firstly you’ll visit the local market with your host to shop for ingredients. You’ll then head back to their house in a city suburb and help to cook lunch. This is no ordinary cooking class and you can choose a selection of dishes to cook rather than be stuck to set menus. You’ll leave with a few masterchef skills we assure you. After lunch, you’ll head to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. The rest of the day is at leisure. This evening you’ve enjoy a delicious welcome dinner at The Sugar Palm.

Day 12

Siem Reap

Your morning tour starts at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, this was the last capital of the Khmer empire and its massive eight meter high walls surround an area filled with temples. Set in the centre of this area is Bayon, whose massive towers are carved with enigmatic faces. Then return to the hotel for some time at leisure during the hottest time of the day. As the day cools you’ll then head out again, this time you’ll travel by ‘remork’ (similar to the Thai tuk tuk) to the temples of the Small Circuit. The most notable being Ta Prohm, built in the mid 12th to early 13th centuries which is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground. This makes the ‘Tomb Raider Temple’ one of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples.

Day 13

Siem Reap

This morning, head out to the countryside to see the gem of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srei or the “Citadel of the Women”, remains the best preserved temple in Cambodia. Continue north to Kbal Spean, one of the earliest Hindu pilgrimage sites in Cambodia. A short 3 km trek up the hill through dense jungle will reward you with excellent views over the plains and the Kulen hills. On the way back to Siem Reap, stop at the Landmine Museum which promotes mine awareness. Mr. Aki Ra, the museum founder, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime. End your day at Angkor Wat and explore the intricate carvings and passageways of this 12th century temple. You will be there during sunset time, when Angkor Wat is less visited and the decorative Apsara Dancers that adorn the walls will shine in the most beautiful light.

Day 14

Siem Reap

If time allows on your last day in Siem Reap, embark on an interesting boat trip on the Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake. Tonlé Sap is South East Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Board a local boat and visit Kampong Phluck, a village built on stilts in the lake. Then return back to your hotel and check out ready to be transferred to the airport for your onward destination.
