La Digue holidays - An authentic taste of the Seychelles

Unspoilt, stunning, and used for a variety of adverts, travel brochures and films, La Digue is home to the pristine beaches you always see, but probably haven't heard of yet. This, alongside a slow paced Creole lifestyle, delicious fish eateries and locals riding on bikes or by ox cart gives the island a charming ambience that you won't forget in a hurry.

Hop on a bike and explore this charming island

Believe everything you hear about La Digue – it’s truly one of the most beautiful places in the world. It’s the fourth largest of the inhabited islands in the Seychelles with a world-wide reputation for its divine beaches and picturesque scenery, home to a gorgeous harbour, a laidback lifestyle and a tranquil ambience.

Even if you’ve never heard of Anse Source d’Argent, you’ve probably seen it. It is one of the most regularly photographed tropical beaches in the world; an image of paradise with turquoise waves lapping against silky sand and pretty granite rock formations. It’s a beautifully unspoiled landscape that will be sure to take your breath away. L’Union Estate is a gorgeous beach with raw natural beauty too, with little coves formed by magnificent granite boulders and a small wooden cocktail bar right at the end.

La Digue itself is entirely chilled and relaxed, perhaps coming from the fact that it is relatively unspoiled compared to some of the other Seychelles islands. Traditional ways of life are still in full swing and the island has not been overdeveloped by tourism – there are only 25 motorised vehicles on the island altogether, and so you’ll regularly see locals and tourists cycling along the road, or hopping on an authentic ox cart.

Ideal for visiting other nearby islands, La Digue presents relaxed seclusion as the order of the day, every day, thanks to its deserted beaches and throngs of nature in the swaying green forests. A small Creole village sits near the harbour, filled with delightful restaurants, French colonial architecture, and locals enjoying a laidback afternoon by the beach. We love Fish Trap, a small traditional restaurant right on the beach, offering bright, quirky décor, great views, and flavoursome seafood dishes – the jack fish in particular is superb. This is certainly a fantastic island if you’re hoping to discover the local Seychellois lifestyle – the island itself is mostly unspoiled, and there are plenty of local restaurants to try instead of staying in your hotel.

As for the hotels – La Digue offers a wonderful mix of lavish hotels, and charming boutiques. Ranging from impressive hillside villas and spas, to homely nine bedroom boutique hotels right on the beach, you’ll be sure to find something to your taste on this beautiful island. If you love to explore the destination you’re staying in, you’ll love La Digue – with so many local restaurants, incredible beaches, and great national monuments including Plantation House and the Roman Catholic Church, there’s more to see beyond your hotel.

Why visit La Digue?

  • Wonderfully quiet and relaxed even by the standards of the Seychelles
  • Idyllic beauty combining gorgeous sandy beaches, sweeping verdant jungle and calm blue sea
  • Your chance to visit the tiny islands just off the coast
  • Genuine serenity – as there very few roads and little transport infrastructure everything is beautifully quiet
  • The stunning beach of Anse Source d’Argent

Inspired? Tropical Sky also arranges Indian Ocean holidays in other Seychelles destinations including Praslin, Mahe, La Digue and the Private and Smaller Islands.
