The largest island in the Koh Yao archipelago, Koh Yao is set in the middle of Phang Nga Bay on Thailand’s west coast between Phuket and Krabi.

In 2002 Koh Yao received worldwide interest thanks to winning the World Legacy Award for Destination Stewardship from Conservation International and National Geographic Traveler for its eco-friendly homestay programs offered by local residents. The island maintains an attitude of conservation and maintains a wonderfully simple, traditional way of life despite development. A holiday in Koh Yao is therefore ideal especially for eco-conscious travellers or those seeking a quieter beach holiday.

A rustic, relatively isolated island, Koh Yao is a peaceful haven from the busy mainland cities beyond its shores. Koh Yao’s quiet roads are lined with lovely wooden houses next to picturesque rice fields and rubber plantations. Near the shore beautiful mangrove trees stretch long winding roots down to the pristine waters. The island offers many outdoor activities including agricultural demonstrations (rubber and fishing) and water sport including kayaking and snorkelling. Hiking is also quite popular on the island. There are many boat trips available to small islands surrounding Koh Yao which are home to bird-nest caves, and chao náam funeral caves which are worth a visit.

A luxury holiday to Koh Yao is a great addition to your Thailand holiday adventure, or a great starting point before heading into other locations.

Please note: Swimming is possible in Koh Yao but the beaches in Phuket province are known for rip tides making swimming at times unsafe, particularly during the monsoon season. Use caution. It is recommended to stay within designated swimming areas.
