On this 16-day journey through Ecuador and the Amazon Rainforest, you’ll have chance to experience this incredible place for yourself. Including time spent learning about rural life in the jungle to taking in the views of the Andes, every moment of this tour is an unforgettable adventure in itself.

Details

Day 1

Quito

Arrive into Quito and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish, exploring the city.

Day 2

Papallacta Hot Springs

Take a bus through the Andes on your way to the Amazon. You’ll stop for the night in Papallacta, where you’ll have chance to relax in the hotel natural mineral pools. The small village is enveloped by a cloud forest between the highlands and the Oriente.

Days 3-4

Amazon Jungle

Descend into the Amazon jungle today, watching as the scenery changes along the way. You’ll stay with a Quichua family and learn about their local customs and way of life. The rainforest is home to many indigenous communities – this homestay portion of the trip is a great way to gain a new perspective on day to day living in this part of the world.

Days 5-6

Amazon Jungle

Today you will travel to a jungle lodge on the Napo River, which is one of the Amazon’s two major tributaries. Over the next two days, you’ll take part in guided walks and canoe rides so as to learn more about the wildlife and natural history of this area. There will be an optional whitewater rafting excursion on the Napo River.

Days 7-8

Baños

Return to the mountains as you make your way to Baños, which is a small town nestled in the hills. There are numerous outdoor pursuits to enjoy here, including horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking trips, or you can simply relax by soaking in the hot springs.

Days 9-10

Cuenca

Head south to the colonial town of Cuenca today, stopping en-route as the Inca ruins of Ingapirca for an optional visit. There will also be time to explore the town, admiring the galleries, cobbled streets and quaint flower markets, and take a hike in the Cajas National Park.

Days 11-12

Cayambe

Take a short flight back to Quito where you will transfer to the village of Cayambe, with a stay in a 400 year-old hacienda at the foot of the Cayambe Volcano. For the more energetic visitors, you can hike to the base of the volcano’s glacier and back again. Alternatively, enjoy the beautiful property, which includes an indoor swimming pool, or go horseback riding into the hills.

Days 13-14

Otavalo

Visit Otavalo and its famous handicrafts markets, where villagers from the neighbouring locations come each week to sell fruits and vegetables, livestock and crafts. The people here are really friendly and welcoming, and the markets are the perfect place to pick up a souvenir of your travels. On day 14, you’ll return to Quito.

Day 15

Quito

Enjoy a free day to explore Quito, with the option to visit Basilica or head to the old town. Later, enjoy your last evening in this bustling city.
