Free time to explore the charming colonial city of Antigua – once the capital of Guatemala. You may want to shop for the regional specialities of jade and silver, or you may opt to take a salsa dance class.

Breakfast included

Day 3-4

Copan, Honduras

Set off for a full day’s journey to Copan Ruinas just over the border in Honduras. Whilst here you will enjoy a tour of the nearby Mayan ruins, where you will walk through grassy plazas filled with intricately carved and decorated monuments, statues and staircases. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains some of the most important Maya ruins with their unusual artistic features.

You will also have free time to either explore the cobble stoned lanes of this charming town or opt to go horseback riding through the beautiful hills and visit the natural hot springs or lesser known ruins.

Breakfast included both days

Day 5-6

Rio Dulce, Guatemala

Visit the Archaelogical Park and Ruins of Quirigua, another wonderful UNESCO World Heritage site. Then cross back into Guatemala to Rio Dulce a small charming town on the banks of Lale Izabal. Whilst you are in Rio Dulce you can choose to take the monkey kayak tour, relax at the hot waterfall, hike through the jungle-strewn trails in the Chocon-Machacas Natural Reserve or horseback ride through a rubber plantation.

Breakfast included both days

Day 7-8

Flores / Tikal

In the morning you will board a motorboat and take a scenic journey to the coast, past cliffs, hot springs and small communities. You’ll enjoy lunch in the small coastal town of Livingstone, where you might want to try their famous seafoo soup called Tapado. After lunch, travel overland to the charming town of Flores located on the banks of Lake Peten Itza. Flores is a small island town, which is attached to the mainland by causeway but where many of the locals still get around by “cayuco” (dug-out canoe). You will have the opportunity to enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and bird watching during your stay in this captivating location.

Then you will be taken to the remarkable ruins of Tikal, a vast Mayan site in the jungle, where alongside the ancient structures and complexes you may spot toucans and macaws. A local bilingual guide will explain all the natural and artificial wonders of Tikal.
