Bravest Bridegroom in the World?
When I approached Tropical Sky saying I wanted a secret wedding, they understood what I wanted. Many couples like to get away and get married on a beautiful beach in the Caribbean without a lot of fuss. What I didn’t tell them was that I was also going to keep the secret from my bride to be Sarah until we reached St Lucia! - a very bold step! We had two young children Charlotte 18 months and Alexander 6 months who were also going on the trip with us.
Tropical Sky were initially very concerned and discussed in depth with me how the secrecy might be achieved. Once we had gone through the “what if she says no”, they were wonderful at planning the secret surprise with me.
I managed to get the size of Sarah’s finger and buy a ring on the internet. I smuggled it on holiday in a box looking like a memory card for the camera
The birth certificates I slipped into the insurance documents. Unwittingly Sarah carried both items in her own hand baggage.
To ensure that Sarah had a new dress, the wedding team invented a story for me about a very posh restaurant where Sarah would have to be very well turned out. Sarah duly obliged and bought a stunning red dress.
Tropical Sky briefed the hotel to not mention the wedding at all when we arrived at the hotel. They had arranged for champagne and flowers to be delivered to the room once I had popped the question. All this had to be fitted around dinner and us putting the children to bed.
And the result…….. Sarah said Yes and we were married overlooking the Caribbean in a Gazebo at the Almond Morgan Bay on Monday October 15th. The planning of the event with the local wedding coordinator in the hotel was smooth and Tropical Sky even had a couple of staff in the hotel at the same time. They came to the wedding and held the kids while we got on with the ceremony. The gazebo was an excellent location with a fabulous view of the Caribbean. If I had a criticism it would be that the photography could have been better, but I know Tropical Sky are addressing that with the hotel.
.In answer to the question “what would I have done if she said no” I replied “with 300 other rooms in the hotel, I am sure someone would have said yes”!![]()
