Antigua
One of the premier destinations in the Caribbean, Antigua is the sunniest of the eastern islands. It boasts a massive 365 beaches, one for every day of the year, making it an idyllic haven to relax in. With its maritime heritage dating back to Nelson’s era, today it offers some of the best Caribbean sailing, and annually hosts its famous sailing week. Its stunning coastline is surrounded by an almost unbroken coral reef, and is also home to a fascinating collection of shipwrecks and a unique network of underwater caves. It is little wonder why divers are drawn to Antigua! Visitors also love the capital city of St Johns, whose skyline is dominated by the magnificent baroque towers of its cathedral, and which offers lively shopping and dining plus a vibrant farmers market. Rich in culture, history and Caribbean charm, Antigua is a ‘must’ to visit.

Barbados
Barbados is an island of contrasting landscapes. With its eastern side exposed to the Atlantic, dramatic views and scenery abound. To the west, however, on the mellow Caribbean side, are miles and miles of white, coral-sand beaches, and it is here that many of the island’s hotels are found. Barbados derives a great deal of its culture from its colonial history, and is sometimes dubbed ’Little England’. Today, the island has a laid-back charm, and dances to the many different rhythms of reggae, calypso, soca and pan music. Barbados is more commercially developed than many other islands, with greater possibilities for nightlife in the local restaurants and bars. This is especially so in the south, where local seafood restaurants must be sampled. While on the island, visit the historic plantation houses, or try an exhilarating water sport, such as windsurfing or reef diving.

Grenada
This small island, just 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, remains unspoilt and largely undeveloped. Known as the ’Spice Island’, the sweet scents of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and ginger often linger on its warm, pleasant breezes. The island was created from a now-extinct volcano, and has a mountainous terrain, boasting wonderful crater lakes and a fantastically varied environment. Dwarf forests crown the heights of Mount St Catherine, giving way lower down first to tropical rainforests then to dry forests. At the coast, mangrove trees line the edges of peaceful, sheltered bays which overlook brilliant blue seas. Grenada is ideal for those wanting a quieter, laid-back break, but still offers plenty to do at both the beautiful resort of Grand Anse, with its two miles of sandy beach, and in the capital of St George, with its pretty harbour and good range of shops.

Jamaica
Jamaica is in the north of the Caribbean, and here you can bask in the glorious glow of its sunsets, relax on its superb white sandy beaches, and marvel at its verdant mountains and glittering waterfalls. Montego Bay, Jamaica’s second largest city, is set on a large and beautiful beach, Ocho Rios provides a great base to explore Dunn’s River Falls and the Blue Mountains, whilst Negril offers some of the best coast on the island. The island is so large, a two-centre stay is recommended to explore it fully.

St Lucia
Saint Lucia is one of the prettiest islands in the Caribbean with its mountainous landscapes, rainforests and wonderful beaches shaped by volcanic activity.
