Overview

Located in the Indonesian part of Borneo, Kalimantan provokes a true sense of adventure and tranquillity. Explore a luscious land of remote jungle and tropical rainforest, framed by winding rivers, ancient cultures and abundant wildlife as you embark on this short 4-day escorted tour.

Aboard a traditional riverboat, your trip will start and end in Tanjung Putting National Park, composed of over 400,000 hectares of mangrove swamp, rainforest and dense jungle. As you cruise deeper into the rainforest and stopover at various wildlife camps, you will have the opportunity to encounter numerous orangutans, proboscis monkeys, leopards, lizards, birds, crocodiles and more (DA).

Day 1

Pangkalan Bun – Tanjung Puting National Park

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport in central Kalimantan, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to the nearby port of Kumai. From here, you will board a riverboat to Tanjung Puting National Park, which will take around 2 hours. Comprising of mangrove swamp, rainforest and dense jungle, this park is home to primates, leopards, lizards and over 600 species of birds.

You will spend this afternoons excursion with a local guide searching for orangutans, proboscis monkeys and a wealth of other wildlife. Tonight, you’ll be sleeping on a klotok, which is a traditional river boat, during the trip to Tanjung Puting National Park.

Lunch and Dinner are included.

Day 2

Camp Leakey

You’ll have an early start this morning as you head up stream to the Sekonyer River, and onwards to the crocodile river, where you may catch a glimpse of these aquatic reptiles.

On route to Camp Leakey, you can admire the beautiful passing scenery as you tuck into lunch prepared by the crew on route. You will arrive in two to three hours. Renowned for it’s orangutan rehabilitation and research centre, Camp Leakey is located in the heart of Tanjung Puting National Park.

There will be time to look around the centre and meet some of the local rangers, and you’ll have the opportunity to witness the daily afternoon feeding. Should you desire, there is the option to take a short trek into the jungle surrounding the camp prior to heading back to your boat.

Day 3

Pondok Tanggui – Pesalat Reforestation Camp

After breakfast, you will journey deeper into the forest as you head to Pondok Tanggui. This boat trip will take a little over an hour and there are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife from the boat deck along the way. You’ll reach Pondok Tanggui in perfect time to hike through the little trails with a local guide to reach the feeding area, where you can watch the 9am feeding of the orangutans. Return to the dock at 11am and head to the Pesalat Reforestation Camp. Here you can choose, plant and name your own tree before enjoying a delicious lunch back on the boat as you return, with a good chance of spotting the proboscis monkeys in the trees.

Day 4

Pangkalan Bun Airport

After breakfast, return directly to Kumai from where you will be transferred to Pangkalan Bun airport to catch your flight home or to your next destination.

  • Houseboat accommodation as per itinerary with private bathroom
  • Return transfer to/from airport/port on a private basis in an air-conditioned vehicle
  • Meals as specified in the above itinerary (Except water, beverages are included on the houseboat)
  • Sightseeing tours as per itinerary
