Overview

Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La is a beautiful, tropical resort located on Penang’s popular Batu Ferringhi beach. Incredibly popular with families, this resort has a plethora of facilities, from tennis courts and swimming pools to a water park and an adventure zone. Splash Zone, the resort’s water park never fails to please young children with it’s swimming pools, water jets, rainbow sprays and water cannons.

Families looking to explore Penang will be pleased to hear the resort is located just 20 minutes’ drive from the colonial city of George Town. This charming city plays host to a number of different cultures and religions and is both incredibly safe and unbelievably welcoming. It’s the perfect place for a morning walk and a traditional Malay lunch.

Back within the resort, four restaurants and bars offer plenty of choice to families staying for longer durations. Our favourite venue is Sigi’s Bar & Grill as it serves up fresh Tex-Mex cuisine right next to the beach.

Location

The resort is nestled on the golden Batu Ferringhi beach, close to Penang’s famous night market. This beach offers a tranquil ambience whilst being only a short walk from many of the area’s best attractions.

The Resort is approximately one hours drive from Penang International Airport.

Superior Hillview Room - Gorgeous 36sqm rooms with traditional Malay designs, ideal for single travellers or couples. Sleeps a maximum of two adults, with the option of a third person for an extra cost.
Deluxe Seafacing Room - Pretty 30sqm rooms offering a bright and airy space with pool and partial sea views. Sleeps a maximum of two adults and one child.
Executive Seaview - Located on the higher floors, these 30sqm rooms offer wonderful views of the ocean and coastline from the private balcony. Sleeps a maximum of two adults and one child.
Executive Suite - Elegant 66sqm suites with beautiful garden and ocean views from the private balcony. Sleeps a maximum of three or four guests.

Garden Café

Located next to the resort lobby, this delightful open-air venue overlooks lush tropical gardens. Serving international and local favourites, this restaurant also features an all-day a la carte menu for children.

Sigi’s Bar & Grill

This fun, family-style restaurant serves fresh, vibrant Tex-Mex cuisine right on the beach. Sigi’s outdoor deck is a signature feature within the restaurant and it’s perfect for intimate dinners or special occasions.

Cool Lounge

With an array of amusements and facilities, the Cool Lounge offers a peaceful place in which to read the newspaper or watch TV. Refreshments are served in the Lounge to ensure guests feel totally catered for. We like this lounge because of its floor-to-ceiling glass panels, which not only offer views of the gardens and the swimming pool, but also provide an abundance on natural light.

Lobby Lounge

This incredibly scenic lounge blends the indoor and outdoor life beautifully. Filled with tropical plants and flowers, it has an open-air layout and delightful views out over the resort. They serve refreshing beverages as well

For Families

Access to Sandy’s Cool Zone is complimentary for in-house guests and it is open to children aged 5 to 12 years old. The operating hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. All registered children at Sandy’s Cool Zone will enjoy complimentary lunch and dinner daily.
