Overview

Situated along the picturesque, silky white sand coast of Zanzibar, this beautiful retreat is an incredibly tranquil property set amongst thirty acres of palm-sprinkled tropical gardens. Bluebay Beach Resort offers an idyllic setting for your special day with stunning, exotic scenery everywhere you turn.

Wedding ceremonies can be conducted in a variety of venues of the couples’ choosing, from the intimate gardens studded with floral blossoms and luscious greenery, to the sublime beachfront lapped by the glistening, azure ocean. You can also marry on a gorgeous wooden deck set overlooking the ocean - a wonderful, incredibly stunning backdrop for sunset photos.

If you celebrate with our Classic Wedding, you’ll both enjoy the presence of a Maasai Guard of Honour, which is a truly authentic touch, as well as a reception on the beach with canapes and sparkling wine, a private wedding dinner in an intimate, romantic setting, a wedding cake, free room upgrade, wedding coordinator, couples’ spa massage, a champagne breakfast on the beach and more wonderful treats. With our Premier Wedding, we will further indulge you in evening cocktails the night before your wedding, a complimentary henna painting for the bride and groom, as well as a private barbeque on a secluded beach the day after your wedding.

The resort has just 122 rooms and suites, each offering an ample level of beautifully decorated, private living space for a serene, pampering stay. We love the Superior Suite – cosy cottages set to overlook the gardens, pool and beach, offering a vast selection of luxurious, romantic amenities. The Sultan Suite offers the ultimate in indulgence, featuring a large four-poster plush bed, a walk-in dressing room, a private veranda and exclusive butler service. What could be more luxurious?

An idyllic beachfront location, stunning swimming pool and incredibly pampering spa create a world of utter relaxation and luxury, whilst a water sports centre, immersive excursions, a vast selection of land sports and other fun-filled activities make for active days too. Each restaurant serves a delectable choice of international and local cuisine, created using the finest ingredients and creative cooking techniques. For those wishing to celebrate with younger guests, there are rooms to accommodate families, as well as a kid’s club, fun activities and child-friendly meal options available.

More Information

The reason is that we ensure the process is efficient and hassle-free yet as spectacular, fun and exotic as only a wedding on an idyllic African resort can be. Ever seen a wedding with a full Maasai warriors’ guard-of-honour for the couple?  Wedding ceremonies are conducted on a spot of the couple’s choice within the gardens or on the beach (if the tide permits) or even on a wooden deck overlooking the Ocean.

Minimum residency period prior to marriage: 4 days

Minimum age: 21 years old

Available: Monday - Friday

Documents Required:

  • Clear Copies of birth certificates
  • Clear Copies of current passports
  • Affidavit confirming that neither party is currently in a marriage.  An affidavit is a document which is dictated to and “sworn” by you before a ‘Notary Public’ to contain true details which are stated by you, for example, to confirm that you have not been married before and are free to do so whilst in Zanzibar. This document should be in the ‘1 St Person’ style (e.g.: I John Smith) and should have a clear authentic Notary Public Stamp
  • 2 passport sized photographs of each partner

If Required

  • If you have been divorced: Decree Absolute is required.
  • If you have been widowed: The former marriage certificate and original death certificate
  • If you have changed your name: Deed Poll certificate will be required.
  • If you have been divorced and have reverted to using your maiden name then this counts as a name change and proof will be required.
  • If you have been adopted: Adoption papers need to be produced

Before you travel:

Guests marrying at hotels in Zanzibar will need to send photocopies of the documents listed to us at least 12 weeks before the date of travel.

In Resort:

Civil ceremonies must be held in the morning and on weekdays only.  Civil Wedding will take place on the beach with the Regional Commissioner coming to the hotel to perform the ceremony; however, in the event that this is not possible it will be necessary to go to the Regional Commissioners Office. Upon returning to the hotel, there will be a symbolic ceremony on the beach with a decorated canopy. In this event, the couple will have to exchange their own symbolic vows. All out door and beach activities are dependent on tides and weather.

ALL ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS MUST BE TAKEN WITH YOU WHEN YOU TRAVEL

Tropical Sky Weddings and the information given above only apply to couples:

  • Born in the UK & have a valid UK passport (with some months validity on return home)

If couples do not fulfil these requirements you must advise us.  Couples should be referred to the embassy of the country of origin and the country where they wish to marry as they may require extra documentation to satisfy their own embassy requirements – Tropical Sky cannot advise on this and couples must investigate this on their own.

As Tropical Sky weddings have no jurisdiction over hotels/resorts/venues/legal requirements and their charges, we cannot be responsible for any increases or changes to these wedding arrangements.  We will, however, endeavour to advise you of changes as soon as we are made aware of them.
