Day 1

San José

Arrive into San Jose and make your way to your hotel. If you arrive early enough, you’ll have time to visit the shops, people-watch in the main plaza or visit a museum.

Day 2-3

La Fortuna

On day two, you’ll enjoy breakfast then head out to the small village of La Fortuna. This is a brilliant location for outdoor activities, so make the most of it by taking part in rafting, waterfall rappelling, going on a safari float or visiting the hot springs. While you’re here, visit the Arenal Volcano which sits on the southeast shore of Lake Arenal – a popular windsurfing spot, thanks to the winds sweeping off the Caribbean Sea reaching speeds of up to 72km/hr!

Day 4-5

Make your way up to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve this morning, surrounded by luscious foliage and spectacular wildlife. There are numerous activities to enjoy here, from zip-lining through the canopy to touring the coffee plantations and visiting the butterfly gardens. This unique area is much like a rainforest, but the moisture is derived from condensation let from the clouds rather than from rainfall – this fascinating ecosystem is home to countless species of birds and animals, and is a beautiful area to visit.

Day 6-7

San Juan del Sur

Continue on to San Juan del Sur to relax by the sea and revel in the picturesque views. This fishing village is perfect for enabling you to do as little or as much as you like. While the beaches are beautiful, if you’d rather keep active you can take up surf lessons, go fishing or go zip-lining on the hills above the village. At night, the laid-back nightlife is a brilliant end to the day.

Day 8-9

You’ll be hosted by a local family in Ometepe for a two-night homestay experience, where you can test your language skills, sample the traditional cuisine and even take part in some exhilarating activities such as climbing a volcano or trying the Tarzan swing at the local swimming hole. As you pass through the scenery on your way to the hotel, keep a watch for the plantain plantations and charming small villages which make up Nicaragua.

(Breakfast and dinner included on both days)

Day 10-11

Begin your time in Granada with an orientation tour. The best way to see the sights here is on foot, so enjoy a relaxed stroll around the city and browse the markets, museums and colonial architecture. Often live music is played in the square and makes for a really fun and relaxed environment. You’ll stop en-route after departing the city to visit the Masaya Volcano, in Parque Nacional Volcan Masaya. This active volcano is one of the area’s most famous landmarks.

Day 12-13

Start your time in Leon with an orientation tour, exploring the city’s colonial past and cultural attractions. Leon has many beautifully preserved Spanish buildings and churches which line the streets – perfect for those wanting to admire the architecture. You may wish to go ‘volcano boarding’ down Cerro Negro or take a trip to the nearby beaches. There’s plenty of history to be explored within the city, so you may also wish to take part in a city tough to learn more about this brilliant destination.

Day 14-16

Roatan is a Caribbean-style island which is popular for being a great place for scuba diving and snorkelling. The crystalline waters are ideal for such sports but equally brilliant for swimming – an array of tropical marine life is found here. Surrounding this island is over 100km of protected reef, where thousands of species of fish are found. Coupled with the pristine beaches, this really is paradise. If you want to see more of this area, you may want to take a bike ride into the interior of the island; the botanical gardens are home to exotic foliage and fascinating wildlife. You will then take a ferry back to the mainland of Honduras and onwards to the coast of La Ceiba.

Day 17-18

Explore the fascinating ruins in Honduras, where visitors can wander through the plazas which are filled with delicate monuments and statues. This is a mysterious and unique place that really brings the past to life and highlights the creativity of the Mayan people. This area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 and has many interesting features.

Day 19-20

Antigua is a scenic destination with a peaceful ambience and partially restored colonial features. The architecture here is brilliant and the quaint villages and towns are surrounded by striking valleys. While you’re here you’ll have chance to take part in a salsa lesson and visit a Mayan village where you’ll make tortillas and handicrafts, before enjoying a traditional meal.
