Pacuare Lodge

Overview

Approaching on a guided raft after white water rafting along the Pacuare River, Pacuare Lodge makes an unforgettable impact before you even step foot in the surrounding rainforest. Named one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World, you’ll find this eco-lodge hidden away amongst 25,000 acres of protected Costa Rican rainforest, just north of the soaring Talamanca Mountains.

We can’t help but be impressed with all the steps Pacuare Lodge has made to ensure they remain sustainable and help the local community and wildlife. The indigenous Cabécar Indians helped to build the thatched roofs that match their traditional architecture, whilst all the farm-to-table cuisine is cooked by talented local youths rather than an in-house chef. Farmers even sourced the lumber so that they wouldn’t need to use Pacuare’s protected trees. The acres of lush, untouched rainforest offer refuge for Costa Rica’s incredible animals, including jaguars, sloths and monkeys, and they’ve even protected 840 acres specifically to reintroduce howler monkeys to the forest.

Adventure is at the heart of Pacuare Lodge, and there’s plenty of opportunity to explore the rainforest. Enjoy more white-water rafting, or embark on a canopy tour and a full day of canyoning. There’s also jungle hikes, birdwatching tours and inflatable kayaks for those who prefer a more laidback experience.

Staying here is a truly unforgettable experience, and it’s perfect for those who seek sustainability, adventure and serenity.
