Things to do in the Caribbean
Snorkelling: Available off the coast of most islands but the best places are: Antigua home to brightly coloured fish and coral, the Grenadines with isolated waters and well populated reefs stretching off the coast, or the Cayman Islands for a chance to see and swim with dozens of tame, gentle stingrays.
Water Sports: Waterskiing, swimming, small-craft sailing and just about any other water sport you can imagine is available at most Island resorts. For large craft sailing options, the Virgin Islands and the Grenadines are your best option. The Bahamas are well known for spectacular wreck diving off the coast.
Hiking: Hiking trails are best in Jamaica, Tobago, Grenada and especially Dominican Republic (host to the Caribbean’s highest peak).
Sport: Sport is also quite popular in the Caribbean, particularly cricket. Cricket is best seen in Antigua or Barbados though most islands have many spectator sport offerings including polo and baseball. Horseback riding is also available on most islands.
Dining: Food is another real treat in the Caribbean. Each Island has something different to offer with varying influences. Many meals are African inspired but with spices unique to the Caribbean making for true taste sensations you’re not likely to find anywhere else. Jamaica is particularly known for its wonderfully spicy jerk chicken recipe. Fresh tropical fruit is also plentiful and easy to come by. A few recipes do well to combine spicy and sweet by including pineapples and other fruits.
