Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru is an excellent choice for those wishing to combine indulgent beach time with some exciting exploration of Borneo's wealth of natural treasures - you will be based here for seven nights.

With this itinerary you also enjoy a unique experience, travelling to one of the remaining rainforest locations to view the endangered 'Man of the Forest' - the Orangutan. One of the best places to do view them is the Sepilok Nature Centre, the largest centre for rehabilitation of Orangutans in the world, helping those displaced by human activity or orphaned return to live in the wild. The centre is in Sandakan and you will enjoy a fabulous full day tour starting with an early morning flight to arrive in time for feeding at the centre, before taking a delicious lunch in a rainforest setting and heading to the see the indigenous Proboscis Monkeys before flying back to your wonderful base at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru. Days 1-3

Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru

Arrive into Kota Kinabalu airport where you will be met for a short transfer (10-15 minutes drive), to check in for the next 7 nights, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the extensive facilities and experience the mouth-watering dining choices, from fine Italian cuisine to all day dining, an open kitchen and sunset-friendly cocktail bars. CHI Spa is a must-do, set on its own island and offering everything your body needs for total rejuvenation whilst the Marina offers water-sports and exciting boat trip to the neighbouring islands of the marine national park. There is Yoga, Pilates, tennis and a gym for fitness fans and those with children will love the water-play park, water balloon station, children's club and 2000m swimming pool as well as all the beach activities on offer from the marina. The resort is also just 10 minutes from Kota Kinabalu city for easy trips into town.

Overnight: Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (3 nights)

Day 4

Full day Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center.

Transfer from your hotel to Kota Kinabalu airport for an early 45 minute flight to Sandakan, where you will be met upon arrival at approximately 8am for a 30 minutes’ drive to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center.

9.30 – On arrival at the centre enjoy a walk on the boardwalks through the Tropical Lowland Forest of Borneo where you will go straight to the free roaming area and its feeding platform. View the Orang Utans feeding and return to the centre to visit the outdoor nursery (as of today around 25 young orphaned orangutans are housed in the nurseries).

10.30 – Visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where rescued sun bears live in a 3 hectare forest sanctuary, the perfect place to see these unique Asian bears and observe their natural behaviours including searching for honey.

11:15 - Leave the Centre and stop for a lunch at MY Nature Resort, with a rainforest setting.

13:00 - Proceed to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary where you can observe the strange looking yet wonderful primates during their afternoon feeding.

15:30- Depart Labuk Bay to return to Sandakan airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu.

Overnight: Shangri-La Tanjung Aru

Days 5-7

Continue with your indulgent stay at Shangri-La resort enjoying the resorts swimming pools, sparkling South China Sea beaches, including Tanjung Aru Beach and Sunset Beach and why not enjoy the marine life with some snorkelling or scuba diving.

Overnight: Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (4 nights)

Day 8

You will be transferred to Kota Kinabalu airport for your flight home.
