Day 1 - Kuching Arrival & Kuching City Tour

You will be collected on arrival at Kuching airport and transferred to your hotel in Kuching.

In the afternoon enjoy a half-day city tour; see the Gambier spice streets, the famous Sarawak Museum (closed on public holidays), a Malay village, the old Muslim State Mosque as well as the colonial Waterfront.

Day 2 - Bako National Park Tour (Breakfast & Lunch Included)

After breakfast, head to Bako National Park; after a road transfer to Bako village join a 20 minutes' boat ride to reach the national park. This is a day with plenty of opportunities to trek through the beautiful park and explore flora and fauna looking for animals, such as wild boars, macaques or you might also spot the odd-nosed proboscis monkeys that can only be found on the island of Borneo. You will have a packed lunch provided during your walks.

Day 3 - Kuching - Semenggoh Nature Reserve - Batang Ai (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Included)

After breakfast, pack an overnight bag and depart to Semenggoh Nature Reserve, a sanctuary for Orangutans that have been rescued from captivity or orphaned in the wild and your chance to view these endangered apes in their natural habitat.

Proceed into the beautiful countryside of Sarawak, stopping at Serian town, a pepper farm and a stop for lunch at "Lachau", a small up country Chinese village. After lunch we proceed to the final stage of the journey, and arrive at Batang Ai lake. Here you will board native longboats to travel by boat across the lake and further up the river (approx. 40 to 50 minutes) to reach an Iban longhouse. Upon arrival at the longhouse, you will be taken for a tour of the longhouse to meet the natives and their families. After dinner, the Ibans will sound their gongs and perform their traditional war dance in full ceremonial regalia.

Overnight at the longhouse (very simple accommodation).

Day 4 - Batang Ai - Kuching (Breakfast & Lunch Included)

After breakfast, you can join in a blowpipe demonstration before you return by native longboat downriver to the jetty. Return to Kuching by air-conditioned vehicle with an en-route stop for lunch.

Day 5 - Kuching-Mulu National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included)

Transfer to airport for your morning flight to Mulu. Upon arrival in Mulu, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the National Park for 2 nights. In the afternoon explore the caves, such as Deer Cave and Lang Cave and the bat observation platform to witness the bats flying out of the caves for their nightly hunt (not guaranteed; subject to weather conditions).

Day 6 - Mulu National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included)

Explore more of the National Park including caves only accessible by a 30 minute boat ride. A simple picnic lunch will be served next to the Clearwater Springs, after which you may enjoy a swim in the cool clear water of the Clearwater Spring and in the evening there will be another chance to spot the bats heading out to hunt.

Day 7 - Mulu Departure (Breakfast Included)

After breakfast, return to Mulu airport for you onward journey.

Important Information

  • Accommodation in the Longhouse is basic, this has not originally been set up for tourists you will be in the community area, provided with a mattress, mosquito net, pillow, blanket and clean linen and simple sanitary facilities are available. A small overnight bag will be required while you stay. The rest of your luggage will be stored.
  • It is customary to bring some gifts for the Iban longhouse people, which can be divided by the number of families. Our guide can assist you during one of the stops en-route to buy some suitable presents. This custom is only applicable to Iban longhouse tours.
  • Tours will be offered as stated in the programme, but some may be done on different days than stated in the programme. For example, if our programme states a city tour on Day 1, it may be postponed to Day 3 instead, without any prior notice given.
  • Even if the package is booked on private basis, certain services may be on shared basis in order to minimise impacts on the natural environment or if other circumstances require so.
  • These services include boat transfers in Bako, boat transfers & activities in the longhouse and land & boat transfers in Mulu.
  • Sightings of wildlife depend on several natural factors (e.g. weather) and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
