Flight and Transfers
Direct flights from London to Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport take 12 hours. Flights from London to Ho Chi Minh City take 15 hours.
British Citizens travelling to Vietnam require a full British passport which must be valid for 6 months from the date of arrival into Vietnam. All children and infants must also have their own passports. All travellers should check full entry requirements prior to travel by visiting the FCO website or by contacting the relevant embassy.
All visitors to Vietnam require a visa and the sole authority responsible for issuing Vietnamese visas in the United Kingdom and Ireland is the Embassy of Vietnam in London. We do not recommend visa-on-arrival, and cannot verify the validity of online visas as they are issued by un-recognised websites with no connection with the embassy. Travellers with online visas may be refused entry. More information is available here.
Important Information: On 22 June 2015, the Government of Vietnam announced a trial period to waive the requirement for a visa for British, German, French, Spanish and Italian citizens travelling to Vietnam for all purposes for a period of up to 15 days. On 30 June 2016 this was extended for a further year.
The visa exemption period is for travel 01 July 2015 to 30 June 2017. For any travel outside these times you must apply normal. Unfortunately the visa fee is not refundable for any submissions already made for travel over these dates. It is not yet known whether that exemption will extend beyond June 2017. The visa waiver only applies to single entry visas.
Vietnamese is the official language but English is gaining popularity as a second language.
If you’re on one of our tours, your transport will be arranged for you. If you’re travelling independently, getting around Vietnam can be an adventure (as well as a real challenge at times). The huge distances mean its often a good idea to fly: the train journey between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi takes more than 30 hours! Long distance buses are another option.
The official currency is the Vietnamese dong
220V, 50 Hz (some 127V outlets). Flat blade, flat blade grounded, and round pin plugs
