Overview

Located on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Tanjong Jara Resort is a sanctuary of luxury and well-being steeped in age-old Malay traditions. Designed to reflect the elegance and grandeur of 17th century Malay palaces, Tanjong Jara is a 99-room resort with an authentic taste of the region’s spirit and an enduring embodiment of the gentle Malay art of service and hospitality.

The philosophy of the Resort is as unique as the Resort itself. Based on the Malay concept of Sucimurni, which emphasises purity of spirit, health and well-being, Tanjong Jara encourages true rejuvenation of both body and spirit.

Tanjong Jara is an opportunity to withdraw from the pressures of this ever-changing world by offering you a chance to immerse yourself in a place of serenity and beauty. Authentic in architecture and attitude, always warm and welcoming, it is an environment to let go, to relax deeply and take time to rediscover yourself, your family or your friends; all this whilst staff members drawn from the local villages truly live the age old legacy of Malaysian warmth and hospitality.

At Tanjong Jara you can choose from a wide variety of possible experiences - lazy and languid, energetic and outdoors, indulgent and regenerative, cultural and enlightening - it is your choice whether you fold them into a single visit, or you craft each visit differently to meet your needs.

Batik Painting
Batik has come to be used as a generic term which refers to the process of dyeing fabric by making use of an age-old technique; covering areas of cloth with a dye-resistant substance to prevent them absorbing colors. With a technique thought to be over a thousand years old, thin wax lines are made with a Tjanting needle, a wooden handled tool with a tiny metal cup with a tiny spout, out of which the wax seeps. Here in Tanjong Jara, guests are welcome to learn the art of batik painting, a refined art from the east that has gained popularity in the western world over the past decade.

Golf
The Resort is able to make arrangements for guests to play at one of the three golf courses situated within an hour’s drive of the Resort - Tasik Puteri Golf Course, well known for its outstanding scenery, Ibai Golf Club, set on a luscious green and the 18-hole Desa Golf Club, Dungun, the nearest to the Resort, only a 15-minute drive away.

Tenggol Island is part of the fabulous Terengganu Marine Park and is reached in approximately 45 minutes by speedboat. The island is famous for its tropical jungle, sandy white beaches and most of all, the untouched coral gardens and rare species of marine life which makes it one of the best places for diving in Malaysia. There are over 20 dive spots which offer unforgettable under water experiences for beginners and exciting adventures for experienced divers. Brand new diving equipment may be rented from the Water Sports Centre and our experienced dive Instructor can even certify you for your PADI Open Water Diver licence as part of your holiday. If you would like to get the PADI licence, the book can be sent to you directly so you are able to study the dive theory at home rather than while on holiday.

The dive season starts on 1 March and finishes on 31 October of every year.

Spa Village:
The philosophy of Sucimurni emphasizes purity of spirit, health, and well-being. The award-winning Spa Village Tanjong Jara is a sanctuary anchored in this ancient Malay way of life. This beautiful complex of structures, gardens and pools, houses a therapy centre featuring programmes for relaxation, reinvigoration and stress relief based on traditional healing methods. These unique restorative Malay treatments have been handed down from generation to generation, ensuring their authenticity, and therapeutic value. With a history of more than a thousand years, the practices are believed to have their origins in the convergence of Malay, Arab, Indian and Chinese influences during the days of the Malacca Sultanate. At the Spa Village Tanjong Jara these long held health and beauty traditions are revived for you to enjoy. Treat yourself to this rich history, in which unique natural ingredients found in various indigenous herbs and plants are combined with the skills of our resident Malay healers to provide a very special health and beauty experience.

Arrangements may be made for baby-sitters at the Hospitality Desk.

There are two swimming pools at Tanjong Jara Resort, a free-form pool near the Teratai Terrace and lobby, and another adjacent to the beach near the Spa Village. Each pool has towels and deck chairs for sun lovers, and refreshments are served at the pool deck.

With no menu, guests are guided by the Resort’s Menu Masters, experts in local cuisine, who provide a distinctive dining experience using only the freshest produce of the highest quality. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery, and shaded by a huge Ketapang tree, the restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner, and serves authentic Malaysian cuisine.

A variety of Asian and Western light meals are served for lunch and Western cuisine at dinner. Nelayan assumes a romantic ambience after sunset and guests have the option of enjoying a delightful alfresco dining experience on the beach featuring bamboo torches and the gentle sound of the waves.

Indulge in a romantic dinner under the indigo sky as the cool sea breeze drifts past you both, accompanied by the soothing melody of the Gamelan.
