Overview

Brazil is a fascinating and exhilarating destination, from the cobbled streets of Paraty to the majestic Iguassu Falls and the thumping beats of Rio de Janeiro. It has it all – friendly people, gorgeous beaches, colonial history and amazing scenery. And then there’s the wildlife – tropical birds, caiman, jaguars and more. This 13-day tour takes you on an unforgettable journey through Brazil’s highlights, no doubt sparking a life-long love of this unique region. (GCL)

Details

Day 1

Rio de Janeiro

Arrive in Rio de Janeiro and transfer to your hotel. There will be a briefing in the evening with your tour guide, but the rest of the day is yours to explore at leisure. You may also take an optional city tour.

Day 2-3

Paraty

Journey down the Costa Verde to the colonial town of Paraty, spending the afternoon exploring the streets, shops and cafes. On day three, you’re free to do as you please, whether that’s island-hopping from beach to beach in the Ihla Grande Bay, snorkelling or visiting a typical fazenda for a sampling of local cachaça.

Days 4 -5

Paraty/Foz do Iguacu

In the morning you will fly to Iguasso Falls for two full days of exploring the beautiful area, from the Argentine and Brazilian sides. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the bird park with its abundance of colourful wildlife, or hop on a helicopter ride for a birds-eye view of the cascading waterfalls.

Day 6

Foz do Iguacu

Today you will explore the area’s walking trails, with the option to enjoy a leisurely boat tour to see the falls from below. Some of the trails will take you over the falls of Devil’s Throat, the highest and deepest of the falls, whilst others will meander through the forest on the Argentine side.

Days 7-9

Bonito

On day seven, you’ll travel by bus to Bonito. Days eight and nine will be free for you to enjoy the numerous optional activities in this area, including exploring underwater caves, going rafting or snorkelling, visiting nesting macaws or simply enjoying a restful few days by the river.

Days 10-11

Pantanal

Take a two-day excursion to appreciate the beauty and myriad wildlife in Pantanal. Though the accommodation is basic, the experience is truly unique – you’ll be staying in a large tent and sleeping in hammocks to further enhance your experience here. This area is rich in birdlife and various wildlife species, such as anacondas, anteaters, caiman and giant river otters.

Day 12

Rio de Janeiro

Transfer to Campo Grande and fly to Rio for your last day in the city – enjoy a final night out on the town.

Day 13

Rio de Janeiro

Depart from Rio de Janeiro today.
