Day 1 Saturday Simon and I flew from Gatwick, arriving in Antigua late afternoon, in plenty of time for a relaxing evening in the hotel.
Day 2 Sunday We met Alexandra, our wedding co-ordinator, who was really helpful. She went through the paperwork and took us to see the various locations in the hotel grounds that we could choose for our wedding, which we arranged for 13.00 on Thursday. We discussed the length of video and number of photographs as well as the music, food and any extras she thought we might like. We opted for a steel band to play typical Antiguan wedding music and canapés and champagne for our six guests.
Day 3 Monday Alexandra arranged for a taxi for all of us to go to the Town Hall in St John’s where she helped finalise our paperwork and booked the registrar. The whole process took four hours and we were back lying by the pool by lunchtime.
Days 4 and 5 Tuesday and Wednesday Two essential days in order to meet the residency requirement of Antigua – but also so I could work on my suntan!
Day 6 Thursday Our Big Day (see below).
Day 7 Friday After all the celebrations from the day before, we enjoyed a late champagne breakfast in our room.
Day 8 Saturday – Day 14 Friday We spent our second week just relaxing on the beach, enjoying every moment of our honeymoon. We were presented with our wedding photographs and were even given a special viewing of our wedding video.
08:00 Simon and I had a leisurely breakfast together and then I went to join Debbie, my Matron of Honour, in the beauty salon where we enjoyed a relaxing massage, manicure and had our hair done.
11:00 Back to Debbie’s room where my dress had been kept in secrecy. The photographer took some pictures of us getting ready and Alexandra arrived with my wedding bouquet and a much needed glass of champagne! She ran through the final arrangements and informed me that Simon and the guests had their button holes, the gazebo was prepared and dressed with flowers and, the canapés were ready. Furthermore there was plenty of chilled champagne and fresh water available by the gazebo, and that the band were setting up and the registrar had arrived.
12:40 Simon and his best man, Michael, met our guests at the gazebo.
13:00 The steel band announced my arrival and the next half hour went seamlessly as Simon and I were married, overlooking the twinkling aquamarine ocean with the palm trees swaying behind us.
Afterwards, we had some photographs taken by the gazebo and on the beach before enjoying the champagne reception and canapés.
20:00 We rounded off the perfect day with a romantic dinner in the hotel’s Italian restaurant with our guests.
