Day 1

Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre & Sun Bear Conservation Centre

You will be transferred from your hotel to the airport for an early morning flight to Sandakan. After arrival at Sandakan Airport, drive for approximately 30 minutes to the world’s largest Orangutan Rehabilitation centre at Sepilok.  Enjoy a gentle walk through the rainforest on the boardwalks to the free roaming area and feeding platform. At 10:00am it is feeding time and the orangutans generally visit to interact and enjoy their breakfast.

Visit the adjacent Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where you will learn about the project to rescue the sun bears. This is the perfect place to see these amazing bears and watch them search for honey.

After lunch you will transfer to Sukau Rainforest lodge where you can check in (superior room with twin beds) and take in your surroundings perched on the bank of the Kinabatangan river. Enjoy some afternoon tea before heading out into the wild on your first river cruise in search of wildlife and birds. Enjoy a candle lit dinner overlooking the river followed by a presentation from the naturalist guide.

Day 2

Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Wake up to the early to the calls of nature and take an early morning river trip to the unique Pitas Oxbow lake in search for wildlife and birds. After breakfast you embark on an educational tour along the Hornbill Boardwalk located behind the lodge with the in-house naturalist.

In the afternoon enjoy another river cruise in search for wild orangutan, silver leaf monkeys, tree snakes, macaques and much more.

Day 3

Sukau Rainforest Lodge & Kota Kinabalu

After breakfast, transfer back to Sandakan where you will enjoy an early lunch upon arrival before proceeding to the airport for your afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu.

For those taking the evening flight back to Kota Kinabalu you have the opportunity to visit the Rainforest Discovery Centre where you can explore the rainforest from the canopy walk and hanging bridge. Discover various species of flora in the botanical garden before making a short visit to the Sandakan Memorial Park on the way to the airport.

Join the movement of a plastic free environment by bringing your own refillable water bottle with you.
