Overview

We love how this resort feels authentic to Mauritius and its bohemian charm. Located along the west coast of the island, La Pirogue takes you away from every day stresses and gives you space to truly switch off and relax.

Named after Mauritius’ local fishing boats, all of the rooms reside in chic bungalows inspired by sails billowing in the wind. Made from volcanic rock and with thatched roofs, inside you’ll find bright, minimalist décor with an island feel.

Choose from a great variety of restaurants and bars at the resort, or you also have access to the dining venues at sister resort, Sugar Beach. Coconut Café is one of our favourites for families – by day they offer flavourful Mauritian street food, and by night they have a varied menu with local delights. Meanwhile, couples can enjoy a romantic night at Magenta Seafood Restaurant, or relax on the beach with a cocktail in hand at Le Morne Beach Bar.

La Pirogue focuses on giving you an unforgettable experience. Younger guests can hang out with new-found friends at the entertaining kids and teens clubs, and why not get the whole family together for dolphin-watching or coral farming experiences. There’s also a recording studio, a soothing spa and lovely beach cocoons with beach service for if you want to relax by the sea.

  • Beach Pavilion – 35sqm rooms in a thatched bungalow located just metres away from the beach with a private terrace. Sleeps 2 adults and 2 teens or children or 3 adults.
  • Garden Family Bungalow –  50sqm rooms in a thatched bungalow connected to create a spacious place to relax with a private patio. The kids receive personalised amenities. Sleeps 2 adults and 3 teens or 4 children.
  • Deluxe Beach Family Pavilion – 70sqm rooms in a thatched bungalow connected to create a spacious place to relax, with a private terrace. The kids receive personalised amenities. Sleeps 2 adults and 4 teens or 5 children.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Suite – There are just two of these luxury 78sqm suites, featuring a separate bedroom and living room, and a private beach gazebo with mini bar and a private butler. Sleeps 2 adults.

 

  • Wolmar Restaurant – A lovely restaurant serving themed buffets with food from around the world. They also offer an early bird continental breakfast for those waking early for a fishing or dolphin watching trip. Open 6.30am-7.30am (continental), 7.30am-10.30am, and 7pm-10pm.
  • Magenta Seafood Restaurant – Located by the pool, this is an ideal spot to enjoy a romantic evening and a gourmet a la carte seafood menu. The restaurant also hosts weekly beach barbecues. Open 7pm-10pm. Closed Sundays.
  • Coconut Café – At lunchtimes this delightful café offers delicious Mauritian street food in a casual setting. By evening, the restaurant becomes a family-style eatery offering Indian Ocean cuisine. Open 12.30pm-3pm and 7pm-10pm, with the bar open 10am-10.30pm. Open on selected days.
  • Beach Service - Offers a light poolside menu. Open from 9am - 7pm.
  • Van Der Stel Wine Bar – A suave wine venue with a varied menu of 60 wines by the glass. The expert sommeliers will help you pair the perfect wine with your meal of choice. Open 7pm-11pm.
  • Medine Bar – Sat adjacent to Wolmar Restaurant, we recommend trying this bar’s refreshing signature cocktails and sampling the local rums. There’s also great live music and entertainment on select evenings. Open 10am-11pm.
  • Le Morne Beach Bar – Nestled on the beach, sink your toes into the sand and enjoy a light meal alongside a tasty cocktail and a beautiful sunset. When the sun has sunk below the horizon, stay for a nightcap by the bonfire with a resident DJ as your soundtrack. Open 10am-2am with a la carte lunch 12.30pm-3pm, and light meals and snacks 3pm-5pm.
  • Dine Around – Guests of La Pirogue also have access to the restaurants and bars at adjacent sister hotel Sugar Beach.
